well, the first two pics looked a whole lot like luaun to me, mainly because of the color, but the others look definately more hog. don't know what it is, but it's a really nice piece of lumber

I built a guitar out of some mystery "African" mahogany that I got on ebay a few years back. Looks a lot like this one, especially the endgrain. But doesn't Khaya = African? Or is that not exactly true...

First picture is with flash. 3th picture shows color best. I got to pick between this 2 part hog and a one piece sipo. Both were really nice but this one kept calling me.
I have 2 pieces of 30 years old khaya (khaya ivorensis if i am correct) in my woodstack for future use.... It is more red and darker... Heavier too.
Still needs a lot of sanding to do and a good think on finish. Going to look up luaun.

Took some pictures in natural light. Stil looks lighter in the picture than it really is. It is more yellowish compared to the les paul body (wich i am guessing is okoume). Also added a picture of the top... Just because ;)

Been sanding for 2 days and got the back pretty smooth. (sanding by hand, Just short periodes, pretty hot over here so long sanding periodes will result in more wetsanding than dry....)
Whiping the back with naphta i absolutly love the golden shine and depth i get on this wood. So what would be the best way to get this?
