Anyone else LOVE Zakk wylde, but hate what's happened to his tone over time?

I can't say I hear much difference.

Zakk has been pretty adament about using either the same or similar gear for decades now. In the 80s he had his Metaltronix amps and at some point he made the switch from BOSS pedals to Dunlop but it's all been pretty much the same sound.

I mean, compare Miracle Man to Parade of the Dead:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuCtL5SrW94]Black Label Society "Parade Of The Dead" - YouTube[/ame]

20 years apart but pretty much the same tone.

The tuning is a separate thing. When he started with Ozzy he tuned to Eb. When he rejoined Ozzy he turned to D. Just a matter of accomodating Ozzy's diminishing range but it does have a big effect on the sound of those songs.

Crazy Babies has been a part of my setlist for years. Because of it's lack of pinchies.

I am not a fan of his tone these days, or the fact that he uses pinch harmonics on every other note, but give respect where it is do....the man can play his ass off!

I liked the Pride and Glory stuff. The early BLS was pretty good to. Haven't heard much lately just because I haven't been paying attention.

Yes he uses too much chorus now but what i really find a pity is his voice latelly. His voice on Pride& Glory and Book Of Shadows was so good. Why all the mumbling all of a sudden? :/
Like this for example :

Yeah it's really weird. I guess it's a style thing he's trying but I'm not too into it.

Still, I thought Unblackened really kicked ass despite it.

I dig Zakk.
I like how low he slings his LP's, I like his tone and I like his humor, he's a pretty funny guy.
His guitars have been getting uglier and uglier as time passes though...
I mean I thought The rebel and the original bullseye were awesome.
But these SG/flying V hybrids and the new vertigo designs are just plain wrong...

Technically the bullseye is wrong and vertigo is a long overdue correction. :D

I don't really care about tone when listening to a song. That's one of the least important things. Passion, creativity, lyrics, melody, energy, those are the things that matter.

Zakk continues to evolve and for that I give him credit. Sometimes musicans change directions and go thru different phases, while not everyone likes the change, it usually brings them to some of there best work. I have been following BLS closely since my buddies nephew, Dario Lorina, was asked to join the band. He is an awesome talent and I am looking forward to his collaboration with Zakk.

I saw Dario with Zakk recently on the acoustic tour. He didn't have a whole lot to do but the few times he got to play solos he played them well.

Thanks for chimin in. At 24 yrs old he has figured out a few things on the fret board that at 59 I'm still struggling with! :D
