Anyone Else Just Fine With Only One Les Paul?

I had eight very nice guitars roughly 24 years ago...then this Scott Lentz 1952 conversion came home to roost. All other guitars were quickly sold. This is the single guitar that ruined me on all others. I have done several A/B comparisons with bursts and this one was equal to or better than all of them. Played every day, every rehearsal, every gig and in the studio for two CD recordings. This is the one. All vintage parts courtesy of my late, great friend, Randy Peterson...including double cream PAF's.

I'm in the process of getting four guitars, with different sonic footprints:

1 humbucker
1 P90
1 Firebird-mini humbucker
1 humbucker/p90 combo in one guitar

I set out on getting the best Les Paul I could afford. I found that in my new R8. I did the same thing with a strat and a tele. So for me I only need one of each to give me a reasonable variety for recording and live play.

You only need “The One”. You think you want more until you have IT.

My avatar P90 Gold top I guess...I do have an old Epiphone LP that I got for my 30th birthday, though I never play it now really (weighs a ton), but I'd never sell it either. I do have an SG Standard, which is much lighter (and well balanced despite being an SG)...too close* to another LP for me to consider buying a humbucker Gibson LP as well.

* Yes I know some will say they are totally different, but not enough for me to justify.

Probably worth mentioning I'm retired like the OP, so I've not got a surplus of cash to throw around if it's not deemed worthwhile to me.

I'm not in a band and am not really all that great of a player but I've always liked collecting guitars. I about 15, mostly Fenders and Gibsons (one Gretsch Black Falcon thrown in for good measure). I've found that with all those guitars, when I grab one to play while sitting on the edge of my bed, I grab a mid '80s Japanese Fender Esquire. For me personally, it's the most comfortable to play and just feels good. The others aren't bad but the Esquire is always the one I grab.

This is the bottom line. I have seen many posts stating "this is the ONE!" then it pops up for sale in a few months. As Spooky88 said...when you have IT...you just know it. I knew in five minutes of receiving my 1952 conversion I would own it for life. This one is IT!

Just curious, I am retired now and did well enough financially to be able to buy any number of new guitars.

However I just don't have any desire. Although my Avatar says TradPro2 I sold that and bought a 2014
Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus new back in 14. I replaced the stock burst buckers with Dimarzios and
replaced the stock nut and bridge both with rollers, and that's it or modifications. I am done and I love it.

It plays beautifully and sounds fantastic to me. I honestly feel no reason to own more than this one guitar.
I get why a lot of players like to have many guitars, nothing wrong with having fun with variety.

Anyone else able to buy multiple guitars but really happy with the one they have and going to stay that way?
I have 2 Les Pauls and some others to round out the sounds I want. I could buy more, but don't feel the need, and I'm very happy with what I have. The rest are a partscaster, 2 freebie low-end acoustics that I repaired, Tama 12-string acoustic, JB Strat, and 4 excellent Solo kits.

I've had the REAL Deal (1959 LP GT Std over burst) that was stolen in 1983, and never seen by me again. Replaced with a Paul Killer Yamaha SG1000 (still have), and later got 2001 LP GT Std, and never bonded with it (pining for the fjords). So I made a clone (Scrap Paul) from good woods, and cheap pickups to learn the woodworking skills of that model. It plays and sounds great to my 70 year old ears. I have enough wood (and maybe time) to complete the 2 others I've started. I go for the traditional methods and finishes (no CNC or blue guitars in the LP vein). I use French Polish, and maybe will shoot nitrocellulose, but it's all about the burst in natural tones for me. I sure wish I could've seen what was under the gold finish of the lost LP (Carter Guitars said it must've been a custom order GT '59.).

I always find it interesting to see guys with the exact LP configuration but in different colors. I have four and each is a far different beast from the other three. P-90's, Seymour Duncan JB, Tim Shaw humbuckers or stock traditional_ all the pickups are different. Even still I could get a way with only one LP....but I couldn't live with just one guitar. I can get stuck on my Tele for months but it will get stale at one point or another at which time I'll pull out something else. The change always re-inspires me and changes my style slightly. But I think that's most guitar players actually.

I have a Am Pro II Strat, a Taylor acoustic, a late model Classic, a 50’s standard AAA top ( it’s gorgeous), and a R8. I’m trying not to buy the R9 I keep drooling over.

Yes. I only have an Epiphone ‘59 Standard now. If I get a Gibson LP, I’ll sell the Epi. It helps that I have several other nice guitars.

I only need one of each kind of guitar. For me life and money is too short to have multiples of a single model. But also I really love having one guitar that I know exactly and bond with. Kinda like a marriage.

I need 2 guitars for playing out. One is a Les Paul. I have 2 other guitars that I don’t play as much- one is a LP.

I don’t play guitar out too often- I could get by with one LP these days.
