Becky and one of my friends sometimes call me "the machine" because of the way i eat and train... I decided to get in shape aprox one year ago while i was in rehab for alcohol dependence. After about 10 days in there my head started to clear and as I was looking at myself in the mirror one morning i said "daxmn fat ass... you need to get in shape." I did 10 pushups and 10 situps that morning... By situp 10 i was huffing and puffing to make it to the top.

Today my ab routien consists of 80 to 100 incline situps, and when i say incline, i mean im hanging from my feet lol. 60 to 80 leg lifts 200 bicycle kicks, 100 palate arm pumps, 100 legs up crunches... ect ect...

I train with weights about every 3 days, i mix up the exercises but they all mainly consists of total gym exersies mixed up with free weights.

i went from a beer gut big enough to balance a 24oz can and tv remote on while i sat in my recliner to washboard abs, i feel cocky for saying so but i did, and im proud lol

I used to do cardio every day but have dropped back to maybe 2 or 3 times a week, if im lazy sometimes only once a week. 30 mins on the elliptical set to the highest resistance at a fast pace.

I eat 6 to 8 meals a day, and supplement out the yin yang.

I supplement with kre alkalyn, whey and casein protein (whey am, casein pm)
essential and branched chain amino acids, beta alanine, l-tryosine, l-arginine-alpha-ketoglutarate, citruline malate, l-glutamine ... I also sometimes use pre mix's (controlled labs purple wraath and white flood) i take optimum nutrition optimen mulit, along with fish oils, cla, sometimes flax seed oils... some other stuff im sure im forgetting... im a gym rat, i wont lie... oh and i eat a shixt load of egg whites lol

anyone else share my passion of working out/supplementation?

Funny you mention this. Erin and I signed up today for the local "Rush" fitness center to get into shape. The meds we're on pack on the lbs and we're both out of shape. I could use to lose about 50 pounds and I would love to do that in about a year or so.

You could do that easily without killing yourself within less than six months. Just on the right programs.:thumb:

Bling I basically did the same thing. I'm getting lazy again but I'm still working at it. I've lost 15 pounds since January. Slow for me considering I was really athletic. But I'm about to beef up the athletic training big time again. I'm young I need to make use of my body.

I've gotten a new protein supplement I'm taking. Haven't been consistent enough but I've put about 20 pounds on my bench press in about a month.

you should consider beta alanine, its dog ass cheap and works wonders.

Bodybuilding.com - Beta-Alanine Information and Product Listing! Beta-Alanine FAQ!

you can get it in powder form and split it into two doses morning and mid day or evening and its a lot more cost effective than the capsules. however jarrow makes caps that are pretty cheap too.

I want to live as long as humanly possible (as long as I'm happy), and fitness is a big priority for me. My wife and kids deserve all that effort I put out for it. I owe it to them.

Here's a little tidbit - exercise is the ONLY factor clinically proven to reverse the aging process, and it does it both physically and in mental capacity. Look it up if you doubt this claim. Even in your 90's, you can build muscle mass and increase your mental sharpness. AND... exercise actually increases your mental sharpness. The body is a wonderful machine and was meant to be used often.

I'm trying to build up lately for sports (gaelic and rugby). ATM I'm 5''6 and 140lbs, a small guy I know, but I do a lot of calisthenic work to be able to use my body weight and muscle for different situations (climbing), I do plan however to hit protein supplements and change my eating patterns in the summer to properly bulk up. I bench my own body weight and squat 190lbs. Kind of a lean mean 100% Irish beef machine hahaha

You just have to be careful with all that exercise.
You know it finally caught up with Jack Lalanne and killed him!

I commend you my friend for being so dedicated. It is a hard thing to do. Like you, I was a gym rat about 20 years ago. A freind got me involved and I was hooked. I went to the gym for days a week, did cardio on the other days, and watched my diet religiously. If I were out at my meal time I would drop what i was doing to go home and eat.
Now here I am 20 years later; I smoke about 2 packs a day, am 20 lbs overweight, and can't even walk at a fast pace without being out of breath. I want to get back in shape but we all know that " wanting to " doesn't get it done.
Now I will say that I don't want to go to the extremes that you do or I use to. I respect you for it but I just can't see my life centering around it again and if I tried I believe I would give up quickly.
I have to start slowly. I know the first and best thing I can do is give up the smoke but thats not easy when you live with someone that smokes.
I then need to get out and start walking. We have a nice park right across the street where alot of people walk and run so I can't say its too far to go.
I know what I NEED to do but DOING it is a different story.

Yea, I'd like to start building myself up soon, trouble is, I'm about the fussiest eater you will ever encounter anywhere. I'm also a scrawny git, I'm 5ft 6" and weigh.. 102lb, so I'm underweight by.. 10lb or so, and more if I want to be well into the ideal range, which I do.. well I guess that's another side of the story, someone who needs to put ON weight. :D Once I do put weight on, I look forward to being able to turn some of that mass into muscle and beef myself up a bit. :)

edit:

Aaahw, some of you lot can lift 2 of me up. :(

Believe me; it is much easier to put weight on than to take it off. When I first started working out way back when, I weighed 120lbs soaking weight, honest to God. I was, as folks around here would say, one biscuit away from being a Ethiopian. Within 6 months I had put on 40 lbs.
There are plenty of tasty, high calorie weight gain powders available if you really wanted to do it. I made my own at home but while eating peanut butter sandwiches in between meals but you have options out there.
