Anyone done Rockschool?

Hi all

I'm now 6 months into playing, and have been having a lesson every fortnight. My tutor asked me on Fri, if I'd like to start the Rockschool grading courses. Just wondering if anyone else has done them, and your thoughts regarding them?

I believe its kinda same as RGT,You become a good session guitarist.

I've never taken any of them (or any kind of grades, to be honest), but I have taught the lower grades occasionally, to students who wanted them or who I thought would benefit.

IMO, they're very good at giving a focus to practice, and at teaching fundamentals like reading and playing in time. (You read tab and notation, but both matter.)

You might find them a little dull if you're just itching to copy your heroes, and learn some famous tunes.

As pieces of paper, I'd say the grades themselves were worthless, even if you want to be a session guitarist. Anyone employing you will want to hear you play, they won't want to see pretty certificates. (Of course, studying for the grades is an excellent discipline, but that's its value, not the piece of paper at the end.)
