Another GC story, but with a happy ending...

I went to order a guitar amp head from Guitar Center's Used gear site. The price was good so, I put it in my shopping cart. But when I submitted the order, shipping for the head was a whopping $42. This is for a 4.6lb, Vox NT2H head that is smaller than a loaf of bread. I've ordered a Marshall 1965A cab from GC Used and the shipping was only $28!

So, I spoke to the GC store with the listing this morning on the phone. The sales person said that the shipping costs are auto generated by GC Corporate and they cannot over ride it. But, he'd call me back.

They took it in the back room for weight and measurements. UPS shipping cost to my zip code will be $11.08.

So when ordering online from GC, call and talk to someone. I was treated well, got a good deal and will do this in any future purchases with GC.

A place where I play is going amp-less. I'm hoping to hide the Lil Night train on my pedal board. Perhaps under my easy button. "Oh, that silver thing? It's just another pedal. It can't be a tube amp. It's too small."

it doesnt apply to used stuff. if you have them ship the package to the store you still have to pay for shipping and if you return it you lose what it cost to ship it.

I figured that "GC" was an abbreviation for a SoCal massage parlor... I would be surprised if GC was now offering headstock polishing as a new service.

Yes, the buyer pays shipping on used gear at GC. With guitars, I've had them ship to my local store and it saved me on a Melody Maker. It arrived with a cracked neck heel & bad repair. My store told me I should have asked if it had repairs before buying it. I did. The salesman said it had no damage or repairs. After forcing the issue, I got a full refund 'including' the shipping cost.

Calling the store and being polite will garner lower shipping cost. I expressed much gratitude to the GC guy I spoke with today.
