This may be a dumb question, but I've search all the threads I could find, and sometimes I wind up perseverating on simple things. So I just began my finishing steps - so far okay - and next week should be ready to spray the burst colors. All the instructions I've read involve dissolving the dye powders in 75% alcohol and 25% acetone. And later, you scrape the red off the top edge of the binding. But back when I did the binding (ABS), many suggested making 'goop' out of binding scraps melted in acetone..... So if I include acetone in my dye mix and spray the top, won't that harm the binding? I guess not since I've never come across any comments to that effect, but these things keep me up at night!

Technically the acetone / thinners in lacquer will melt the binding if in contact with it for long enough. In practice the acetone / thinners evaporate off before having had enough time to do any damage to the plastics.

Think about how long it takes for binding chips to dissolve into goop and that is sat fully submerged in acetone.

Ons makes better binding goop with thinner "curly-q" planer shavings of binding and a few drops of acetone.

I mix my Analyne dyes with lacquer thinner and let sit for 15-20 minutes then strain into lacquer.
