They are absolutely gorgeous! But I don't get why people make fakes. If I was to have something that beautifully crafted by hand I wouldn't want a gibson logo on it, it almost devalues it.

Well, you get the point, anything but pure sunburst  And I'm not quite sure if I'll use Aniline on this one because I want it to stay in color.

So what do you think? :hmm:

I like the darker red:

The Fuchsin red from Kremer I used for my first build will stay, even get darker in the sun and looks like that.
And it is a real aniline dye.

Some more layers of red, UV and only a little mahoganybrown look like that:

Why not do a backward burst? Have a light colored edge with a darker middle.

So at last..... Finally I did the finish on the last of the three. Maybe a little too dark edges. The colors are off (as usual because of a 500W spotlight) on the picture. The "black" is more like dark brandy/brown IRL and the flames look great under the dark parts.

I'll post a pick when it's assembled and ready for Rock'n'Roll.

I just wish I could get close the finishes that you don't like! Another fine job: another
build deserving pride!

Wow man, that looks outrageous! Love how the flame popped on that top! Good job.

The sun is showing up so it's time for a sun bath :) I used aniline exclusively on this one. No fade-proof stain at all, not even the amber layer. Let's see how it turns out.

On this picture the colors are more accurate but the dark parts are lighter IRL, so the flames under _are_ visible. I believe that will show up when I wetsand and polish the top.

Thanks!

I know it's possible to secure the aniline to fade but AFAIK when putting nitro-cellulose on top of it it's out of the question...or?

After a 3-4 hours in the sun, the light red faded nicely, but the amber aniline almost disapeared. Take a look at these two photos and you can see what I mean.

After removing the pot knobs I revealed this. Very nice indeed.

Here are the pickup cavities, the left is amber, the right is red anilin. In reality it's more obvious, the amber is almost gone and it's only the first coat of yellow left.

After this I put on two layers of ColorTone Amber fade-proof stain to make it more vintage as the aniline amber didn't do the job.
Now I want it to stay like this but I know it will continue to fade. :(

Even the red beauty has started to fade and I can't have it hanging on the wall anymore, it has to stay in the case. :(

When they've faded too much I'll problably sand them and use fade-proof stain. I have too many burst and I don't want them all to look the same :laugh2:

Great looking burst Lars! It will look awesome even if it fades all the way to a lemon drop!

Absolutely! With maybe just a little less red and some more black/dark burgundy around the edges! It'll be the greatest looking MIJ ever! :dude::dude::dude:
