Well, time to dig up old threads. This because all pictures were missing since a long time back and I thought it would please somebody to bring them back to live again.

Hopy you like it!

---

Yet another build thread, or in fact three. But in real life I'm working on another five Gibson replicas, all different, eight in total.

the_three_stooges.jpg

The one on the left with the Bigsby will be a replica of 9 0875 "The Red Beauty", only the finish left to do on that one which will be in next week, I hope.

The middle is going to be a '59 Burst. And the right one..... I think I'm going to make that a 60s Burst with double white bobbins on the pick-ups, no nickel covers for a change.

The fret boards on the two are not glued, nor the necks. I have to shape them first, scrape the bindings and insert the turtle dots.

For a change I used my Power sander on the last two and when counting I believe I save 20 hours or so not doing it by hand with Ibex Planes and scrapers. What a relief :D

You certainly are my hero!

Love the red beauty, 59' burst, double-white 60' ...

What about the other five, what are they going to be ?

Please, keep us updated!

Can't wait to see how the red one turns out. I was actually looking at that one in BOTB at work today, thinking that it might be an inspiration to refinish my BFG. Any pics and details on your finishing steps would be appreciated. Nice work.

Thanks to all!

Chuck, I'm also working on a LP 57 Special Single Cut TV, one Junior DC sherry,
Two LP Customs Black Beauty, one with Bigsby and 3 pups, the other with two pups, both gold hardware. And a Telecaster that never seem to be finished, still on the shelf for about a nine months.

I wish I lived closer to Malmö, I would have forced you to mentor me ;)

Looking good! Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to more updates.

Looking good Lars, now keep posting pictures :thumb:

what power tool sander did you use? :hmm:

I use a Bosch 115mm sander. Infact this is the very one.

Okay here we go with a series of pictures of the current builds...

Some nice billets of eastern flame maple.

img_4262.JPG

I've already started with a couple of necks.

img_4248.JPG

Here's the inventory for three of them.

img_4256.JPG

Stacked five bodies.

img_4277.JPG

Time for gluing the tops on the Honduran Mahogany

img_0066.JPG

This time I go with hot hyde glue.

img_4284.JPG

Time to work on the necks. Here's my jig to route the truss rod channel.

img_4288.JPG

Done...

img_4291.JPG

I'm making my own truss rods and here I'm making the anchor nut

img_4294.JPG

img_4295.JPG

A couple are done and ready for installing.

img_4298.JPG

Cut some maple stripes, they are glued with hot hyde glue.

img_4300.JPG

But first I mask the neck with tape.

img_4301.JPG

Time to shape the neck to the correct width.

img_0087.JPG

I'm doing it with this router!

100 percent straight!

img_0086.JPG

Time for correct thickness of the heel. 1 1/2"

img_0098.JPG

Cutting up the fret boards and I'm sawing with 12" radius.

img_0083.JPG

Next step is to route for the inlays.

img_4313.JPG

Take care with CA-glue :-D

img_4314.JPG

Radiused and done..

img_4319.JPG

The hyde glue has dried and I start to work on the bodies. First I drill.

img_4323.JPG

Then I route

img_4326.JPG

After that I'm routing the angles of the body.

img_4329.JPG

Yes, I'm pleased with that.

img_4333.JPG

Checking the neck and will route the same depth on the body.

img_4334.JPG

Here I do it... (EDIT: ooops wrong pic, wrong body, this is the LP Special body that only has 1.5 degree angle but it's the same procedure)

img_0104.JPG

Drilling for the output jack. By experience I'm using something to stop the drill in time to avoid tear outs.

img_4336.JPG

I've already routed the bodies and sanded one of them before routing for the bindings.

img_4338.JPG

a little Nafta on a body to view the curls. Nice! Not too much curls, I like that, I'm kinda fed up on fiddleback curls.

Oh yes, you DO contribute a lot to this section. That's just awesome, 3 at a time...you do comission work, do you? Only asking because of the amount of guitars you are building there.

They all go up on the walls in my house. I don't have the time to play on them as I'm too hooked up with builds. :laugh2: But I do build custom guitars but not the ones in my build threads, they are my babies and not for sale.

You sound like me. I'm always building now, when I'm not I'm spending all my spare time studying and learning as much as I can about building guitars.
