So far this has been my experience... popularity is never a good way to make critical analysis (and is a fallacy in an argument). I will that if something is good it might also be popular. In this case, I assume that is taking place due to my first reaction to watching a vid demonstrating the KOT. I still do not think I can personal spend $300.00+ for an od pedal.

Can it do all out distortion?

At the moment I have a Wampler Euphoria and a Suhr Riot Reloaded. Between the two I can get whatever I want.

I want to build a 2nd smaller 4 pedal Pedal Train Nano board. I'm wondering of the KOT can do overdrive and distortion.

You can get the red side with the extra gain option. However, the KoT isn't a distortion pedal. And while there's plenty of gain on tap, it doesn't radically transform the sound of the amp. So for example, I use a nmv Marshall. The KoT might help me dial in early era Metallica, but it won't make my amp sound like a Mesa.

You're an addict! Hang out in the pedal section, you will GAS for a pedal ! I've been avoiding many sections here like the plague. So much stuff I never knew I needed!!!!! I love hanging with the pedal crowd though. I got my perfect guitar, I got my perfect amp, so now I'm having fun with pedals.

Beware! The more you get, the more you will lust for more! I love this stuff, but it's all hit and miss.

Pedals are so rig dependent, one can sound great with one amp and terrible with another. The respond differently to pickups and other pedals as well. And then there's the subjective factor... you can get everything set up perfectly and sounding great one day and the next think it sounds like crap. In my experience the KoT gets along better with most of the rigs I've tried it in (although there have been exceptions). Maybe that has something to do with its popularity.

I have seen (heard) some demos where it sounds very good stacked with other pedals. For my taste, anyway.
