Hey guys,

I am looking for a cheaper SS amp with all the bells and whistles and wonder what people have on here.

I currently have a Mesa Triple Rec and a smaller Subway Rocket. I love these amps and they sound great, but I am looking at joining a cover band that plays a wide variety of music. I need something with built in effects in around 100 watt stereo 2x12 format. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I know everyone says youve got great amps just use them, but Im looking for something small and mobile, the 100-300 people rooms I will play cant handle my halfstack. Its just to loud and when I throttle it back it loses tone, Ive used a Hot Plate and it just kills it, plus we will be playing for people who cant tell the difference between a Marshall and a garbage can. My subway rocket will work but it has one basic sound and Im looking for a little more variety. 70s classic rock, 90s alt, to current generic radio rock.

I played the Vox AD50VT and it is quite the tonal wonder. I may pick it up today as it is used and only $259.00 US! Not stereo, but a great pile of tones and effects for cheap and light package. I have a Mesa Lone Star Special with 4 10" speakers and some times it is just too much, plus it is a little flabby on the low end when I play high gain, so I'm looking into options.. The Vox's offer a lot for the money.

Stereo offerings can be had from line Six with their Flextone II combos.

Line 6 - Flextone III

The 75 x 2 can be had for arounf $550.00US

From their spiel:

"The all new Flextone III has amp tone from Line 6's flagship Vetta, effects adapted from our award-winning MM4 and DL4 stomp box modelers, 16 classic Reverb types, and our exclusive A.I.R. II direct recording technology.

Amps & Cabs
Flextone III's soul is its remarkable collection of Amp and Cabinet models—resulting from our meticulous study of a dream collection of vintage and modern amplifiers and cabinets. Flextone III features 32 groundbreaking amp models built from the same amp technology found in our flagship Vetta amplifier. We've even added all new models based on a 1963 Fender Vibroverb, Bogner Extacy, Cornford mk50h, and a 1985 Marshall Silver Jubilee.

Effects
Against our accountant's better judgment, we took the liberty of adapting a bunch of great stomp box models from our MM4 Modulation Modeler and DL4 Delay Modeler pedals, and stuffed them all into your Flextone III. You'll get instant access to models based on the Maestro EP-1 Echoplex, Roland Space Echo, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man, MXR Phase 90, Uni-Vibe, and Leslie 145. There's even a dedicated Compressor and Gate. And it doesn’t stop there. We've even added 16 classic reverb types ranging from Plate and Chamber to vintage Spring.

Flextone III Plus features:

* 32 Vetta-based amp models
* 12 Effects based on our award-winning stomp box modelers
* 16 Mix 'n' Match Speaker Cab options
* Award-winning Point-to-Point modeling technology
* 1x12 touring quality cabinet
* Powerful 75-watt stereo power amps
* 4 programmable amp channel memories
* Stereo XLR direct outputs
* MIDI compatibility allowing access to deep editing and the CustomTone.com library "

These new modeling amps would likely be my first choice for doing cover band work.

Thanks guys I am going to check out the Voxs and Line 6s first chance I get.

Last night I pulled 4 power tubes out of my Triple Rec to get down to 50 watts. It really killed the tone.

The versatility of a bunch of built in effects looks good for cover work.

Save your money, on another amp and buy a Weber Attunator Get a 150 Watt MASS, and you should bet set better

I went and played some combos at GC and man I am spoiled. My Triple just sounds too good to leave at home. I thought that I could find something that gets a good tone for less than 500 that I wouldnt care what happened to and have a mass of effects for cover stuff. But I am at a point to where if the guitar and amp dont inspire me to play. I would just as soon stay home on the couch, cause I definitely am not making enough money to justify being dissatisfied.
