I think the Brits would have rated higher in the poll...except that nobody can understand what they're saying.

...Yanks are far more into the flag waving patriotic thing than we are...

True. We're as Nationalistic as Germans, but we are funnier than they at least.

Take 'Porridge' for example, an old comedy show based in a jail.
In the British series all the guys saw out of the windows were grey dismal red brick walls.
This was considered far too depressing for American TV audiences who like happy ending to their comedy shows, so they had to change the outside view to a beach and palm trees. The whole package has to be happy for the Yanks, but our humour has two edges. Yes it's very funny, but at the same time it's very dark and bleak.

I did read what you posted after that, but the whole Porridge thing is out of our hands. Our censors here are really terrible. They tend to over-censor everything, and they're the ones who make everything happy. That's most likely because it appeals to the most people. Since you can't please everyone, they're trying to please the most by over-censoring, which means more money.

In reality, more Americans have dark senses of humor than most would think. Our movies are more like that though. Almost all comedy movies these days have happy endings. I can't do anything about that, but I can speak for myself and quite a few others when I say we can definitely handle the darker side of humor. Many of us are rather cynical and enjoy those types of things. :thumb:

But like I said, I did read the rest of your post, so it's not a complaint or anything, it's just me saying that what we watch and how they change it doesn't have all that much to do with our comedic limits. :D

Well, of course their humor is based on ours, because ours is the funniest. You guys can't even keep up with the French and Mexicans. For shame! :laugh2:

And, what the hell would you know about the quality of bread, you're English! :naughty:

 Don't you mean your humour is based on theirs?
American humour is based on a mish of cultures introduced only fairly recently ( As far as cultural history goes ) by immigrants. Either European, latin American etc etc. :laugh2:

I'll have to say though.. The French are the best bread makers..
English bread is like rubber and American bread like it's just been exhumed from a three thousand year old tomb in the desert.:laugh2:

Also, what have you ever eaten out of a tomb that would give you a point of reference on American bread?:laugh2:

I really love some American comedy shows, especially the Jewish written ones.
The whole Hollywood epic good guys and bad guys epic flag waving Schwarzenneger type movies though just makes me crease up.
I've been all over the States from east to west and have met a lot of people on the way..Had some great times.

...American humour is more slapstick...

Hilarity is well, hiralious. Slapstick if you will.

We are rated "most hilarious," not funniest.

Mel Brooks probably plays better here, than in the British Isles.

I agree with the german outcome. But how does one know about spanish or mexican humour? as for french. I only know the Louis de Funes gendarmes comedies and Taxi.
Besides our own of course and the germans. Before cable we only had dutch and german tv, believe me. That shit was horrible.

I've never heard most other countries sense of humour. Most people have only seen the british and yank version of it besides their own. Thank you tv and hollywood. I wonder how that poll was conducted. 30000 people over 15 countries or something? I don't know, but I believe there are a shit load more countries. That poll is flawed.

Oh come on mud.. The average US supermarket loaf is awful.. The chocolate even worse. It wouldn't be so bad if there were any cocoa in it. :laugh2:

The Brits have some of the best food produce in the world, but don't know how to cook it.. They overcook bloody everything.

We are both streets behind the French when it comes to cuisine.

Exactly...Polls are superfluous. If there was ever a thing more dangerous than subjective opinion it's collective opinion.

People are funny wherever they happen to come from.

We have better teeth.

:headbanger:

Yay 'Merka!

American hirality is based on the unexpected turn, etc. Basis of slapstick is the unexpected, which can be seen coming the more you get used to it. Which is why Leno and Letterman get less funny over time. It becomes predictable once you become familiar with their schtick.

Jewish writers for sitcoms are more cerebral.

British humor is more tongue-in-cheek, which means you're present and paying attention: which we as Americans are not. Which is why our elections are as they are...
