....I do feel compelled to point out that adjusting the rod does not always produce an immediate result. It can take minutes before you see it.....

I've got a Telecaster that is not showing results immediately. I adjusted the rod, apparently to its limit, and slackened the strings, and it is STILL not coming out of it's 'bow'. I'm going to try lighter, 9 gauge strings if it doesn't straighten out.

Turn it to the left. Which left, this left? No, the other left! :laugh2:

Is it right to assume that the neck has 'front bow', then? :hmm:

Too much 'relief', and tightening the truss rod didn't make it 'flat'. When I slacken the strings, the neck goes flat. It seems to be getting better in small increments. Perhaps the lighter strings will help.

I dont know if i want to bother loosening it up and seeing it if slides out all the way
I think it will hit the hole and stop anyways.

I'll just leave it be until its a problem and then I'll take it to a pro.

Well, if it has too much relief you should try 'loosening' the truss rod....

Loosening allows the neck to bow more, and tightening works against the string tension, thereby taking the bow out. I'm not THAT dumb!

Out of curiosity, if you tighten it up, does it get snug, or just spin and spin and spin? Just wondering if you actually broke the truss rod or if it's just not got enough ompfff to counteract the strings.

Ive had my truss rod slide up before when trying to pull my allen wrench out on an angle, i pushed it back in and it still tightens/loosens and seems to be working even a year later.

So I dunno

I think that's the problem I have; the threaded portion is not long enough to bow the neck back enough.

If you take the nut off the truss and put a washer in there, it will give you extra room if you ran out of threads.

Tighten to couteract the string tension thereby straightening the neck.

A busted rod would pull right out of the neck me thinks. :hmm:

Photo of the nut end into the adjustment slot might help.

take it to a professional and stop messing with your guitar

I hate when people say stuff like this... It causes people to not know their own instruments, and I feel that knowing your own instrument is necessary.

If 3/4 of a turn is too much, how come I've never broken a truss rod in my 16 years of playing and fooling around with my collection of 14 guitars? There are certainly a few times where I've turned more than 3/4 of a full turn. However, I do it slowly as to not cause undue pressure.

Besides... The issue with turning more than that isn't breaking the truss rod. That would require A LOT of force. The issue is busting the truss rod through your fretboard. LOL

Now the question is... Is it just the nut that's coming out or the hole rod with it? If it's just the nut, sounds like it wasn't threaded onto the end of the rod. If it's the whole rod, it sounds like the anchor at the heel end of the neck is either broken or the rod wasn't threaded into that.

And yes, I know I bumped an old thread... But this post got my goat.
