Almost NGD Finally- STP/Montrose CC 28- Pics Added

Finally after a 8 week wait my Montrose is on it's way to me. It arrived Monday at my dealer and arrives tomorrow to me. I'll be sitting waiting on the big grown truck all day tomorrow. I have not seen the guitar, not even a picture; so it should be the ultimate Christmas morning feeling opening the box. I hope it's as nice as the others I've seen. We will see. Pictures to come tomorrow!

Honestly, after all this waiting I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. The guitar plays and sounds great. The weight, color, and aging are great. But the top is not what I was expecting/hoping for. It is a very interesting and old looking top with lots of blister and grain. I was hoping for a flamey one like most I've seen. I'm going to see if it grows on me the next day or two then decide what to do. Here are some crappy cell phone pics. I'll get better one tomorrow.

Spoke with my dealer he told me that since it was a special order there was nothing he can do. So it may be in the classifieds this afternoon. Hopefully I can get most of my money back out of it. It's a great guitar and someone that love old looking tops will love it. I may have loved it if it wasn't for the shock of not being what I expected.

That sucks, sorry it wasn't what you expected. Since you can't return it and it plays good and sounds good, I would go have a couple beers with it and see if the two of you can bond. Who knows, once the initial dissapointment fades away you may have your new #1, and if not, you can always sell it then.

That's BS talking from your dealer IMO. Your telling me if it had any other issues he couldn't do anything about it?

I would call Gibson personally, tell them the situation/your displeasure and that you want a exchange.

If possible ship the guitar directly back to Gibson for another and leave the dealer out of it. That's a lot of money to pay for a guitar and not be happy. That top is not a CC #28 IMO.

IMO you will not be able to get your money back or even close selling it. I would not go that route unless nothing else was possible. I would get a exchange while it's early, don't wait.

There are still a lot of new CC #28's out there and very few are going to pay close to dealer price for that top and finish when they can get a new one that looks much better.

I'd have more issues with the blotchy looking finish over the plain top. To me the finish and burst look really off compared to ones I have seen. Maybe it's just the pictures??

I think that's the crappy pictures.

The dealer sounds like he is lying....sure you will have to eat shipping but that looks nothing like what was promised and since the CC are meant to look as close to possible as a specific guitar Id push to get this returned. I would contact any lawyer friends as well.
