so damned close, though. I suppose that last few centimeters would just eat at you (well, me anyway)

Can't tell if the top or the strap pin is off center. Not an important flaw. Mojo-ish.

if you look at the bridge you can tell, it is just a hair to the left of where it should be. Now having said that, I have seen centered seams look off from certain angles (this one looks to be straight on, so I think it really is off center)

The chipped wood on the neck would cause a major disturbance while playing imho ..

Mmmm, thats the only deluxe/standard I can remember like that.
However a custom would be the ticket. Covering it up with black or
solid color paint.:)

Not a few 74s Customs are like this, my former one. Saw some similar Deluxes too on Ebay etc.

This might hold true to the custom pictured.
Prog, could that be a true center seam. Looks like.
Need straight on pic.

Since the strings fall properly on the neck, it's not a matter of a misplaced bridge and/or stoptail. It looks properly build, but with seam placement disregarded. The seam falls under the D string! Since I find Norlins to be hopeless as far as consistency and quality control are concerned, this glitch would not bother me at all. Who looks to Norlins for perfection? The rest of the instrument looks beautiful; I'd be happy to own it. I once read a serious article that claimed that the best sounding Teles have two-piece bodies with the seam off center. So who knows -- maybe this is the Norlin version of that...

Many bursts actually have slightly off centre seams.

As do a few of the Vintage V's.

Its wasn't a new phenomenon even when 74 was current
