Kalashnikov's new thing was also the caliber, 7.62x39. They called it an intermediate round, meant for 1 or 2 hundred yards at most (accurately). The SKS uses the same round. .

Wrong....the cartridge was also copied from the stg44....8mm Kurz basically the standard 8mm rifle cartridge cut in half.

Soviets as usual saw this and went....wow what a good idea....lets take that and say we came up with it at the same time.

I also have a couple photos of personal friends of mine carying such weapons into battle. You cannot see them though. ;) they are also Americans. Hmmmm

My uncle carried one in Vietnam....he was over there before I was born so 1963-64. Said it was a great weapon, never had the m16 but had an M2 carbine and he did not care for that. Says he should have brought the AK home.

Some of you are clearly bringing knives to a pun fight.

I am not so thick as to assume every AK that has been fired has been done so in a manner that was purely aggressive or on the side of evil.

Plenty of police and military groups have used this weapon against criminals and terrorist.

I also have a couple photos of personal friends of mine carying such weapons into battle. You cannot see them though. ;) they are also Americans. Hmmmm

Not to mention, I am certain more then one father/husband has used such a weapon in the proper and true defense of his family.

Kinda weird how much a peasant's gun that numbers in the 100 million range costs. :hmm:

I never implied you are thick, quite the contrary as I like your posts a lot.

But I'm not as thick to assume that every time we go deploy for a military action it's for the side of 'good' over evil.

Seems hard to avoid misfires.

I wasn't implying that YOU had implied I was thick-- Actually, I was just making a generalization and agreeing with you, without coming out and saying so.

The AK47 was much like the Charleville musket, The Mauser 98, the M1 Garand before it. A very reliable weapon that was produced in quantities that ensured that it would become a prolific military arm that was used for both good and evil throughout the world. The degree of goodness or evil was directly proportionate to which end of the muzzle you were on---
