B, C or D depending on the actual guitar & project.
My Replica is a very light B - C, for want of a better term. Hardly any wear on the body.
My custom made Strats & Teles are all D's.
My forthcoming Retrospec is a C - D; i.e. light parts aging etc. no finish checking.
As for my Historics, I have Gloss, VOS & Murphy Aged.............probably prefer Gloss except for several Murphy Aged Les Pauls that were done (IMHO) really well. The VOS is give or take but can easily be removed as we all know.
D for me...I'd rather write my own story.
I just refinished a Strat of mine with a very thin Gold and it's already checked and getting worn in, it's cool to watch everything happen over time.
Most of you have seen my HM, 2 years ago it would have been new or option "D"
No regrets on light aging and checking choice, I just don't tour or gig anymore. So a new guitar just won't get like my strat that has seen real road wear.
