Ok, here's the deal. I promised myself if I survived the hear surgery that I'd buy myself a new guitar. Well, I dodged the bullet on the surgery but I think I still owe myself that new axe. ( No argument! Me thinks I deserve it so there! :naughty:) I have a killer vintage accoustic, a pretty nice Epi LP Standard Plus Top, and a pretty nice Peavy semi-hollowbody. Just makes sense that what ever I buy it should kinda fill out the mix. My dream guitar would be a Rickenbacker, but being as how that is way out of my current price range, I'll keep it in my dreams for a bit. Soooo, I'm thinking a Strat or Tele. My budget, $300 range, is probably more of a used Strat. Maybe a MIM one. I've been looking at Guitar Fetish Xavieres too. I play Classic (50's,60's,70's era) Rock, a bit of Country leaning towards Rockabilly, and Blues. What I'd really apreciate is any suggestions such as makes and models of guitars that would fit what I'm wanting and tips on things to both look for and avoid. That should keep everyones wheels turning. lol I consider most of you pretty :bowdown knowlagable ( that a word? lol) so I'll give any suggestions serious thought.

I really recommend a classic vibe strat. Right at the price you listed and full of mojo, especially for a Squier.

Check it out:

Up your budget to about 600 and buy a used SG Standard ... or a new faded special ...

Go with the quality man.

Yes, you need a strat. :thumb: And you deserve one :thumb:

The MIMs sell for 275-350 in my CraigsList area. 300 should get you one.

This one has great playing and sound in it. Still classic vibes.

I own a mexican strat as well and it's awesome. It's basically up to par with a standard, just down a notch or two.

If an American strat is a 10, a Mexican is an 8, with a classic vibe a 7. Some people will probably tell you that classib vibes are equal to Mexicans too. From what I've seen, I wouldn't doubt it.

Yeah, from all of our responses I'd say they're all good. Looks like it's between MIM strat and classic vibe(though I'm the only one to recommend that so far ).

Do try both out if you can. If you can't, then neither of 'em are a bad choice at all.

Over on tdpri.com (the tele site), guys there seem to think the Squire classic vibe (CV) tele is a great buy. There may be different flavors of this, so check there for the details.

Strats and teles are both great guitars. I like my tele a bit more than my strat in large part because the middle PUP on the start gets in the way when I pick with my fingers. But if you want a whammy bar, the strats the way to go.

I also love the simplicity of a tele and they just plain sound great.

For 300 I would say a MIM Strat. Maybe you could also get a MIA Tele or Strat used, if you are lucky

I third or fourth the Classic Vibe tele. You could probably get it under budget and they're pretty great from all accounts.

Also, you said country and rockabilly a bit? Tele.
