Hi there,

I've been browsing this forum for the past year and I finally got an R9 so I've decided to join and make my first post regarding my melodious beauty. I

have some buzzing coming from the bridge when I play the D and G strings due to a little wire/string that runs across the screws on the ABR-1 bridge. It seems this little bit is a wee loose so I just pushed it back behind the screws to keep it from vibrating. What is the purpose of this wire? Would I be able to tighten somehow or would I have to buy a new bridge? Also are the ABR-1s you can buy online through a gibson authorized seller the same type as on the R9s? Thanks for any help.

yea, that wire was not on the original bursts. It came later merely to help hold the individual saddles in place. My 69SG has them on her so they started sometime between 60 and 69 I think.

As posted in the other thread the screwdriver trick works. Yours looks all deformed and is on the wrong side of the screw on the d and g stings.

it should be closer to the pickup.

Another trick I have done is to take a stainless steel .20 gauge unwound guitar sting and made my own retainer wire.

The screwdriver trick didn't totally work for me. I still heard a bit of vibration. The way I increased tension in my original picture works best. No vibration at all. Of course it looks a little hinky.

take it off...my rythym guitarist lost his, and he has no problem...maybe put a little loctite or something on the screws to hold them in place so they dont immediately fall out in case of string breakage. I used to lose knobs at gigs, im very violent and would swing my LP and knobs would come off hitting chicks in the head.
