Great post Phil. I joke about drugs alot. This is a R+R forum:thumb: They really are a lose+lose deal. Some think they casn handle them. NOBODY can. They destroy. Youthful FUN turns into BORING habits. I was never that bad. Drank and smoked ALOT. Pills +powders nada! Anything that hangs me over I want NO part of. Druggies and drunks are boring. monkeys pushing the pleasure button OVER+OVER!

Pot is the safest ,but MOST people I know abuse it. A RULE IS IF YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETING EVERY DAY YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! Alot of my friends are PHILLY fools. They don't realize they are not 20 anymore. They do coke and drink ALL night playing video-games. GROW-UP!

One year when I was 26 I DRANK every day. It was BORING. My [email protected] was STALE. My buddy was dating a stripper and we would go to the TIT bar EVERY night. It was FUN the first month. Then the"girls" started 'telling too many tales. [email protected] tales. How many problems they had!.........I now don't EVER drink. I have books to read. Reading +drinking don't mix.

Someday I would like to do peyote with some Indians for spiritual reasons. That is the only "drug" I really want to try. Just remember all thrills are fleeting. They just become "MONKEYS ON YOUR BACK' in the long run.ever had a monkey bite your neck? THEY DRAW BLOOD!

Good post Tim.Thanks.
Well my initial post wasn't intended as a drug counseling service advice line , but merely to point out to newbies into the business how easy it is to get sucked into all that hype of thinking that drinking to excess and being high makes you a better player.

Slacky has seen fit to add his words of wisdom, which should indicate to most newcomers the validity of my initial post.

I should really thank him for his superfluous demonstration. :laugh2:

Phil I like you and Slacky. We all have a voice THANK GOD! SLACKY is a different beast. He is like Hunter S. I really don't think he has a drug problem. He is one of those WILD souls that thrives under pressure. KIDS YOU ARE NOT SLACKY>HE HAS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE> Phil if you help one kid THINK for a minute you did good. People ALL have death-wish. We can't help it. It is a shame there are SO many ways to fail. LIFE IS HARD! LIFE IS GOOD!

Good post Tim..:dude:
Well I stuck the music biz out simply because I just couldn't hack day jobs.
Lazy?.. Selfish?...Probably..:laugh2:
When our kids were small, my wife and I would be eating out in a great Italian restaurant called 'Peter Mario’s' ( Where the Kray brothers often ate )
Then perhaps a month later, we could only afford one jar of coffee a month and just scrape up the rent.
Being a muso isn't an easy life. In fact that's exactly what it is..It's not a job, it's more of a way of life.

So who are these guys who are great musicians.. Tortured souls. Mentally unstable, or simply selfish bastards.. Who knows. Perhaps all three.

Couldnt hack day jobs huh? haha Sounds like me, I play guitar and it's probably the only thing I like to do here. I love to surf but cant where I live but drive over to the north east every now and then to have 4 hours getting my head smashed, it's character building.

Im more committed to laziness than some people are.

drummer in the band has the same views as me, and like him all Id want to do is music......how to make that work is the hard part...If I could get by playing music Id be pleased with that. Clutch dont make millions, but they get by, love what they do and are always learning and playing and theyve been around for 20 years. Unfortunately I dont have the know how to make anything happen, I doubt I will be able to get anther bass player let alone anything else.

It's that crossroads which road to take.....Been with my first girlfriend for ten years this year, she putting up with me is admirable.

Im a misfit for sure, I take no shame in saying that, I dont see the world like anybody else and a lot of people cant figure that out, all them sheeple out there who you walk past and they look you up and down and then think they know who you are after 10 seconds, thats up to them. Nodouby theres other people who are similar but I am yet to meet any of them.

Work hard for money, get a house, get married, spawn two kids, get a bigger house and another car...go on holiday once or twice a year, consume, consume and spend 70% of your time on the planet making money and try to spend it before you buy the farm due to some stress related illness.

I dont want that but whats the alternative......good question.

Yes ...it be be me .... dammit ... sense I lack the proper words to insult you ... I guess I will have to go where you are and get beatin and schooled on such things .... and then ... one day I will know what to say ...

Nah ...... fu-ck that .... You gonna come over here .... I got some folks on a plane hitting a runway near you right now ... and we gonna play a little game .... ha ha ha....

Been to the States many times Slacky.. All over from East to west and from North to south.
I can't remember bumping into you on any of my visits however. I'm sure I would have remembered.
Unfortunately old chap there isn't a runway anywhere near me, unless you are thinking of arriving in a C-5 Galaxy, but you can get a train, bus and then a taxi connection if you ever happen to grace our shores.
Wonderful scenery you know and the sea air is embracing.
Not sure I'm good enough for round of golf though.

Im at that crossroads which manifests currenlty as existential nihilism and I dont want to leave anybody behind by choosing one path and walking away from the others which is what I fear might happen. Been with my first girlfriend for ten years this year, she puts up with me which is admirable.

Interesting post moody, thanks.
Well I'm afraid it happens to everyone.. It's called getting older.:laugh2:
One does get more conservative and the only reason I left London back in the 80's was when the kids arrived.
I didn't want them brought up in all that mindless violence and shit one had to put up with in local schools etc. So we upped sticks and moved to the country.
Yes I suppose I sacrificed a lot of what was going on in the scene then, but looking back on it all, it was well worth it.
The London gig scene as I knew it back then is all but extinct these days.

In fact the music scene down these parts is probably more alive and healthy than in the London suburbs nowadays, simply because a lot of the old 60's musos got out and moved out.

Go where your destiny leads you.. It'll all work out in the end. It nearly always does.
Most of your friends of today will merely be shadows of the past in the future.

This body is 28 years old.

I agree, this outlook I seem to portray does seem very pessimistic, but the sort of view I take is, if I cant do something I am passionate about then Im not going to put up with it and thats a very dangerous mindset to be in which I am fully aware of. If everybody started to think like that, quite a few people would be terrified they might be losing control over the majority.

Maybe being passionate about things is what gives meaning and purpose. Theres little else that seems to...I maybe have a low tolerance level for doing things I hate, why does it sound that crazy? I dont know, societies expectations, the conditioning trying to overpower independent thought/ideals...the thought that working hard is the noble thing to do and the only thing to do otherwise your a worthless being....I think that is a sad misconception. Theres a lot of things going on and many remain oblivious, but the signs show that they are starting to wake up over the past few decades.

Sounds like the ramblings of a mad man huh? 'stop smoking that shit you crazy fool' Maybe the spooky thing is Ive never been on drugs, as somebody shouts out 'yeah! maybe you should be, prozac'

Might sound weird and people might instantly have a strong opposing opinion and the urge to react with verbal lash outs, but Id invite them to think about it a little first and if they do feel like that, ask yourself why. (dont mistake that as being patronising, if is sounded so then thats not the intention at all, I dont pretend to be clever in the slightest.) I think below the negative vibe theres something there that seems to make sense and it's not about being selfish.

.....maybe say something like oh will you get over yourself, cheer up it might never happen, theres people in africa starving....etc. True.....you could say that but it doesnt feel like something Id choose to feel. Sadly I dont understand what goes on inside my head and what it means a lot of the time, who does? Im not a psychologist, sometimes I think I should be with the way I interpret and seem to analyse behavior and thoughts/opinions etc, other peoples and my own.

Yes, luckily all the Americans we met on our travels were the most charming, friendly and hospitable people.:dude:

I tell a lie though.. Perhaps I did catch a fleeting glance of Slacky as my wife snapped a lonesome figure who's truck had broken down by the roadside thumbing a lift as we drove by.
Needless to say, we didn't stop. :laugh2:
