Even when I was only playing humbucker guitars I thought Strats sounded more like someone singing, because of the extended tonal range, especially the quack positions. I guess that is part of why I converted to single coils, mostly a Tele in my case. No quack on the Tele but I like all three positions, great contrast between neck and bridge. (I never use the 4th "humbucker" position, it sounds too much like a humbucker without the growl.)
Honestly?
I still prefer the sound of the Tele over the Strat. Mine is just this big fat slab and it's heavier than the Strat. It's a nice gateway guitar and it has a beautiful sound.
I really am playing the Strat because it's like a workout. I picked up my SG for a few during a break and it was like butter compared to that Strat.
Which is a good thing.![]()
Sounds like you might want to sell a Gibson or Epi and get a decent Tele, maybe chambered, with a belly and forearm contour, modern bridge etc. They don't have to be cowboy guitars anymore.

Now the end solo sounds like Billy Might have plugged in Pearly Gates for that .
Mick Mars also was a Gibson player and switched to a Strat. That was for health reasons tho...
I've heard Gibsons called overpriced but I've never heard on called unhealthy.

UNLESS it is Friday Night.Great thread, you sucked me in, I almost got "enflamed." I should have known better, a Fender thread on MLP? I better go to my Pro Wrestling forum now. I can argue about who is better Billy Graham or Dusty Rhodes that is much safer than the Gibby vs Fender WARS!
People say Fender is the more versatile guitar.
But coil split those humbuckers...and their baseless argument is finished.
