A Thought About Fender Guitars

Even when I was only playing humbucker guitars I thought Strats sounded more like someone singing, because of the extended tonal range, especially the quack positions. I guess that is part of why I converted to single coils, mostly a Tele in my case. No quack on the Tele but I like all three positions, great contrast between neck and bridge. (I never use the 4th "humbucker" position, it sounds too much like a humbucker without the growl.)

Honestly?

I still prefer the sound of the Tele over the Strat. Mine is just this big fat slab and it's heavier than the Strat. It's a nice gateway guitar and it has a beautiful sound.

I really am playing the Strat because it's like a workout. I picked up my SG for a few during a break and it was like butter compared to that Strat.

Which is a good thing. :)

Sounds like you might want to sell a Gibson or Epi and get a decent Tele, maybe chambered, with a belly and forearm contour, modern bridge etc. They don't have to be cowboy guitars anymore.

Yeah, or get one with a body made of light swamp ash. :thumb:

I think Stratocasters are one of the sexiest guitars ever made. Put it on a stand and, watch it's shadow on the wall. It even has a "Woman Tone" to it as well. Fender guitars and amps rule! I have two Epis and three Gibson Lesters which I love but, there is something special about my Fender products. I'm sure Slash has played Fenders also. He is is Lester guy but, I bet you can't get him to bad mouth a Strat or Tele! All my Gibson products perk up when I blast them through my Super Reverb. Strats are special!

LOL.

No, that's OK. I learned a long time ago that it's OK not to be a one-guitar guy. A harem is just fine by me. ;)

Besides, my Tele's nice. I bought it used for the same price as a new one...it sounded and played that well...(and was a bit heavier than the others I tried)

I built myself the best of the big three:

20141216_035546.jpg

72 minihumbucker in the neck, 2010 Gibson P-90 middle, garden vaariety 489t bridge, 550 CTS pots, .22 Russian snake oil cap.
The mimi switch is for the neck pup. I can run neck and bridge, or all three.
Switch lug jumped so bridge and middle are on the lower tone pot.

I am happy.

Mick Mars also was a Gibson player and switched to a Strat. That was for health reasons tho...

ZZ Top - La Grange - YouTube

The Strat was 1955 Hard tail in the Marshall Super Lead 100 with Celestion Greenback speakers

La Grange (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now the end solo sounds like Billy Might have plugged in Pearly Gates for that .

Those Greenbacks were begging for mercy. You can hear it. :laugh2: I do believe the first solo was a strat - and I guess I could buy the distorted rhythm guitar. A cranked Superlead into Greenbacks will make any guitar sound pretty fat. No way the end solo was a strat, however.

Thanks for the memories.

Practical reasons. They tend to weigh less and if you are getting on a bit, that might be a factor and half of those guys have hearing loss, so the brighter tone might help there.

But probably, they just like playing Fenders, like I do. Great reliable guitars and tough as nails.

Fender For the clean tones.Clean rhythm tones. And for versatility. They are lighter and easier on the back. Can be nicely overdriven with the right boost.

Great thread, you sucked me in, I almost got "enflamed." I should have known better, a Fender thread on MLP? I better go to my Pro Wrestling forum now. I can argue about who is better Billy Graham or Dusty Rhodes that is much safer than the Gibby vs Fender WARS!
UNLESS it is Friday Night.

Then it is a different thread all together...

People say Fender is the more versatile guitar.

But coil split those humbuckers...and their baseless argument is finished.

Sorry, but after having split coil humbuckers in my guitars for 30 years I've come to the conclusion that they aren't really worth it.
