Hey guys,

Im looking at purchasing this guitar. But i first wanted to ask a few question's. It's a 2011 Les Paul Custom Shop Siberian Tiger and it's based off a 59 re-issue.

1). Is this as rare as the shop tells me it is ?? I have a feeling it is from the scarce info on the net.
2). Is this top classed as a quilt top ??
3). How collectible do you think it would be in years to come.
Thanks guys.

I'm not a collector, so whatever. I must say that is a magnificent top on that Les. Wow! Is that an ebony fretboard based on a Les Paul Custom? If it's based on a LP Custom, that looks killer to me.

I don't see how that's based on '59 specs.

1) Probably rare.
2). That's flame.
3). Don't buy it based on how collectible people tell you it may or may not be and don't buy it because it's rare. Buy it because you like the guitar. Rest assured, you will loose money if you ever sell it and "rare" guitars are sometimes harder to sell.

Good looking guitar...but it needs a pickguard. :thumb:

Oh believe me, if i go in fact buy it, im buying it cos i love it ! The collectibility was as after-thought. Ill show you some specs i pulled from another ad for another one of these. A pick-guard, on that ?? No way man !! hahaha

The main reason i asked these questions was to see if the info i had found/read was in-fact correct. He wants $6,000 for this (as apparently there is only 2 in Australia) so that why im doing some checking around cause it's alot of dough to drop on a guitar. Here's some specs.

Based on a Historic Reissue, this Siberian Tiger Les Paul STD offers vintage specs finished in a modern color.

Based on a 1959 Les Paul Reissue this guitar features the Gibson Historic Les Paul routing, holly head veneer and the 59 neck. Add a pair of Burst Bucker pickups and you have one fine guitar. Finish it off with the eye catching Siberian Tiger finish and you have an uncaged animal that is ready to rock!

Gibson case included.

Here is another ad i found..

Year: 2011
Manufacturer: Gibson Custom Shop
Model: Siberian Tiger Les Paul
Case: Original Hard
Color: Siberian Tiger
Condition: Mint
Description: NOS 2010/11 Custom Shop LP with all of the latest appointments; Historic 59 neck profile, thinner binding, vintage tuners, newer inlays etc. It has a double-stained GLOSS finish - called Siberian Tiger (hence the name). Nicely figured maple top - pics don't do it justice, looks much better in person. Virtually un-played by original owner. "As new" condition. Comes with its original Gibson Custom Shop case, un-installed cream pickguard, leather bound COA "booklet". Very limited run - maybe less than 15 made(?) with the black back. [One sold for $3900 on eb*y back in June, and it had a few small blems! - This one's being sold for LESS] - Call or email for price.

If you guys did read all of that im very appreciative. Thank you

Is that a rosewood board on a custom? Strange, I've seen it before but I didn't know Custom Shop Customs had that.

I don't see any resemblance to an R9 whatsoever, based on the pics and relevant info posted.
Looks more like your average CS Custom with a figured not so average stained top, hence the LTD edition finish spec.

That(at least from those pics posted) is also not a quilt top. More a BBQ figured top.

What is this "Gibson Historic Les Paul Routing"? Any head shots?

Cream p/g on existing/shown black plastic hardware? Odd...

That may not necessarily be a RW board, some ebony is light and even stained black to get the right consistency. Though,if they're saying this is based on an Historic...

Where here in Oz are you and these?

I've just got one of those a few weeks ago, by far the best guitar I've ever played, seen and heard, I emailed Gibson and they didn't know what pickups were in, as they didn't keep tabs on every 'one off' they build, as they also told me mine is a one off. The guy I bought it from said he thought they might be 57 classic's in there, but burstbuckers they are not, I've got an 05 Std with BB's in and the Tiger sounds totally different, not sure if thats a result of a chambered body or not I doubt it.
Personally I'm not interested if my guitars value goes up or down I aint selling it.
Next string change I'll look under the hood and see whats in there.

Get the thing bought Bulldozer, you wont regret it, here's a few pix of mine.

Take care, Frank.

That's some better and nicer shots. Very nice.
That one actually has some quilting going on and the board on it is ebony,or at least it seems to be.
It will be swissed, not chambered, unless the specs say so. But CS' are swissed.

Have a look under those pups next string change,as you said and then you should know what's loaded in there.

Congrats :yesway: That's a nice guitar.

Why don't you have a look around the Members Classifieds here(there's some nice one's for sale at the moment) or contact one of the forum vendors. They'll help you out and find what you want for a much better price than you can ever dream of getting here in Oz. Trust me.

Flashriffs, that thing is ****ing beautiful !! Yours is different though, it has the gold hardware. It shoud be weight relieved, but not chambered as it a custom shop.

Lowdown, thanks for your info man. I definitely want to play whatver i buy before i buy though. So it will have to be from OZ mate.

Here's the email I got from Gibson regarding my guitar being chambered.

Hi Frank, Thanks for the pictures. The guitar appears to be original; the serial number is registered here also as a custom quote Les Paul Custom, in siberian tiger figured top, chambered, from 2011, made at the Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. You would need to ask the original owner for the exact specs, as this is a one-off guitar. However, as the guitar is registered as a Les Paul Custom, I think that the guitar has the specs of a Les Paul Custom which you can find on the following webpage: Gibson.com: Gibson Les Paul Custom but with the exception that the guitar has a siberian tiger figured top/ and color and for the guitar being chambered instead of weight relieved.
