With the Greg Martin CC it was the other way around (original to the left).
"Daves Guitar" had som even more quilted tops that they also sold as "Greg M" CC.
I think Gibson devalue the Collectors Choice concept by doing things like that.
Also I have seen lots of examples of CC necks with different dimensions.
If it is supposed to be a precise recreation, that should not be the case.
Especially not with 6-10 K guitars !!

I think Sweetwater's got a new photographer, graphic designer, monitors or something. All the new Gibson Custom's look off in the pics. The Nicky they have has a cool top but the color is nowhere near Lemon. Everything looks too red and orange on their site.

Why is this surprising? So many of the CC's are far from the originals top wise. I'm still at a loss why anyone would want an exact replica of another guitar that is not the one they are holding anyway. Or a COA with some random collectors name on it. Just me though.

its surprising because the color is usually not so absurdly off from the original and so inconsistent with the run.

particularly ironic because of some of the early pics from the custom shop where they were so proudly displaying the perfected coloring sample

Sweetwaters photos are often VERY off. I purchased a Bright Lime Green SG from them. The pictures on their web site looked like a Dark Olive Green. I knew the olive had to be off so I asked my tech to make sure it was lime prior to shipping it out....

Mike, you have one of the very few good ones. Still, it's clear that Gibson is having some serious problems with this run for some reason.

I've only seen a couple of the Donna CCs in person, and on the ones I have seen the color was terrible. Here's a photo posted on the other forum, showing one of the Donna CCs on the far left, next to the real Donna. There was no yellow in the middle of the guitar! It looked ridiculous!

Mike60's Donna is beautiful. This one is just sad. Probably why it is up for sale on the internet.

Frank

Yeah, Frank...that one is horrible. It makes it much worse to be sitting directly next to the original one.

And if you notice in the pic, in the background is the Gibson truck. Edwin Wilson from the Custom Shop was there and saw that CC and agreed that it looked pretty bad. I could be wrong, but I think he may have offered the owner of that CC to have it re-painted.

The tops I can see varying widely. Just to hard to match. The finish color however on a big majority of the Donna's is just way off. It's something they should be able to match completely. It's almost like Gibson never looked at the Original. Not sure who they have painting this run or approving them afterwards but almost all of them miss the mark badly except for a few exceptions. Most of the vintage cherry sunburst TH's look more like Donna finish wise than the actual Donna CC's.

It's not just Sweetwaters pictures. You can go to Wildwood and other dealers pictures and see the same off finish color.
