Long ago I saw a 9 string Alvarez acoustic with single E-A-D and doubled Gg-Bb-Ee strings. I am wondering about making an electric like this. Would it be possible to get a tailpiece and bridge set up like this?

I bet you could piece one together by pulling the saddles from a ToM-style 12er bridge.

As an aside, I used to run my 12ers as 9-strings, but with the bass strings double and the treble single, for bending and leads.

I thought about getting a 6 and 12 string TOM and swapping the parts around. A bolt-on neck with an uncut nut would work as well. The tailpiece has me a bit stumped though - may have to make something special for that.

Yeah, that would be the trick. You'd either need to mill one yourself, or perhaps just convert a 12er? There'd be a slight angle introduced into the string's course, but I doubt that would make much difference.

Well, you're probably not looking for something like this, but the BC Rich Bich 10 string might stimulate your thought processes.
