I've had this les paul for a couple years now and i know its a late 74' model, but didn't les paul deluxes come with mini humbuckers?? Iv'e read old gibson cataloges and it shows options for full-size humbuckers and p-90's, but all the suburst les paul came with white p90's. Is there any way to tell if the p-90's in my guitar were ordered like that or are they older? Can you date p-90's? I purchased it in the mid 80's so it had some time to float around before it came in my hands.

Are you sure that is a 74? The Gibson engraving on pickups tells us that the pickups are from 72. Look at the caps for number like 137xxxx and it will tell us more.

What engraving on the pickups? The pots are helpful in dating, but you can never know for sure, unless they are from 74. Doesn't really matter, they are all the same from 71-74. Still, didn't think that finish came around until 73?

Anyway, OP, why don't you repost on the Norlin era section. You'll get folk who have similar guitars to answer your question. Also, they will be much more courteous to you. Jheez, no one besides me and prog can come aboard for a welcome? Shame!

And face it, someone shows up with a Studio and people jump on to welcome him. Every time I see someone show up with a Norlin era Gibson, no one says a thing, with the exception of Norlin era Gibson owners. Go back and look before you try being clever with a face palm.

I think it's kinda funny how you post onto this thread to try to burn me from what I said. However, I didn't see you make a comment or a welcome to our new member. Thank you for making my point there buddy.

Yes the picture of the pickup has Gibson embossed on it; you have you enlarge it to see it but it is there. OP "Gibson" embossed and stamped pickup covers were used in '72, as always, there is going to be a little bit of spill over to the next year until parts supplies were exhausted. Personally, I have never seen a '73 with embossed pickups but.... I would check the pot codes and solder joints, it is too easy to change out pickups; I would expect factory original P-90s in this guitar would have been creme anyway.
As always, more and clearer pics always help. Cheers and welcome to the forum.

Damn, must be my iPhone. Still can't see it. But yeah, usually embossed means 72. Still the pups could have been lying around or swapped. Wasn't the first CSB for the Deluxe 73? Don't know where I am getting that from, just a recollection.

Go over to the Introductions section,, have a look and then continue your flapping. I try to welcome every member who comes to this site. This is not the introduction section.

I rarely see you in the introductions threads welcoming new members, so your little Holier than thou attitude is nothing more than pathetic Hypocrisy.

:)

Does it really matter where someone posts their first post? Really? You're right, I don't go to the introduction section. When I see someone post here as their first, I welcome them here. Sue me. Regardless of that, if the man first introduces his guitar here, then does it really matter?

I believe the pickup covers have been changed, the covers would normally be cream color, and I believe the embossed covers you have are from a 72 guitar, remove the covers and see if they are the 70's clear bobbin variety P-90s

It is tough to see even on my computer monitor. CSB first appeared on the '71 price list.

Nice Deluxe! Always wondered how they sound with P90's. So far I've only play ones with the small Humbuckers.

Come and visit the Norlin section. Lotsa fun there.
