Is this 66 SG junior worth restoring? I can pick it up for $1300. It looks to have been stripped, tuning keys replaced and something going on with the bridge.

Thanks
b

UPDATE: So the 66 SG arrived today. I must say, it is pretty beat up. Looks like it was originally white. Pots, knobs and pickup appear to be original from what I can tell. This thing is light as a feather. Serial number is 514740. Super easy to play sounds good. repainting it white would hide its short comings :)

What do y'all think?

Looks like it's worth restoring, but I couldn't begin to guess at if the price is right.

Harmonica Bridge on a 1966 SG Junior.
Never seen that one done before.
Guess they never heard of a Leo Quan Badass.
Three holes from Short Vibrola that was removed.
I like the existing finish color as is.
If you restore it, need to be solid color to hide holes.

I'd play it as is.

I guess I would just restore the headstock. I agree, the body finish looks good

Be prepared to invest to restore it.
It's a freakin' shame the headstock veneer is gone.
This baby used to have a Vibrola tailpiece (three holes).
If it has been stripped, make sure the new finish is "historically correct".
In the end it should be worth more than the price plus restoration expenses.

That being said the guitars from that era are usually great,
how they feel, how they sound.
If you don't have the finances to restore it, you can enjoy it for what it is now.

Looks like something is going on at the neck joint. Any pictures from behind?

Looks like it has binding on the neck as well. That's odd for a Junior.

Well, what we see looks restorable, but of course the pic shows little. Cracks, action, back of neck, etc -- all that stuff can be a bigger problem than finish and screw holes. Is the PU original? Pots, caps? I do think it's a little $$$ given the substantial modding. SGs are really straightforward and easy to work on. Unless...

Only you can decide if it's worth it. Is it doable? Probably, but if it indeed does have added neck binding or messed up neck repairs it's not as easy to fix. On face value, plugging some holes and refinishing the headstock face is easy.

If that's a Guitar Center item, it should be returnable. Maybe get it and take it to a reputable shop for evaluation.
