I just know is no matter how much money I have, my wife wouldn't be so supportive of me spending that kind of money on a guitar.

IT’S A FAKE!!!

I’m guessing that the guy doesn’t have an account here. He probably hobnobs over at the other forum.

Take note: This guy has all the money in the world and when he gets his dream guitar, he plugs it into a Matchless combo.

:dude:
They sound better through Fenders and Marshalls . I keep the DC30 for my Tele . Humbuckers overpower that amp , and Jamie designs all his amps using a Strat style for voicing and pre-ship testing .

I watched this video on YouTube. Very cool. I was stunned how much color is left in this one. You dont see that too much anymore unless its a later 60.

I'm sorry, the guy that delivers the guitar seems like kind of a douche.

Very awkward video, not sure how to describe it

Any vintage guitar shop video that utilizes drone footage, a bed of mood music, drama, a story board, on-site production crew, embellished acting, a writing crew, a consultation agency, staged settings, catering, pre-production, multiple lighting techniques, unnecessary scenes, talent scout, filters, draft revisions, Lloyd's Insurance, cameos, a legal team, multi camera shot....is going to seem a little, er, um, "overproduced." (eg: awkward.)

Did that help? :laugh2:

I was thinking more on the human emotion side of things, but we can work with this sure.
So next time I say the word "film", please in your head read it as a combination of all the things you just mentioned above.

Emerald City Guitars goes: Hey man, sorry bout your brother but can we "film" you when we "spontaneously" hand you the guitar?
Guy goes: Uuhm sure.
ECG: Maybe we'll give you 5 grand discount if you also let us "film" you listen to that totally not akward voicemail?
Guy: Well uuh, you know, i'm still kinda devastated. But for another 5 grand discount I could totally throw in some tears when you "film" this totally sponteanous private moment?
ECG: Lights, camera, ACTION!

(Not my aim to offend or ridicule any of the involved parties here, sorry if i have)

My first reaction to the vid...

It took me less than 60 seconds to find out exactly where he lives and how to get there, with clear shots of his house (and any open windows) on Google street maps.

Not my style to be so forthcoming, but if it works for him, that's all that matters. What could possibly go wrong with sharing all your business on the internet...right Mr Ellefson?

I'm glad many people found something to like in the video. The obsessive materialism and reverence were both funny and a little obscene to me, but heck, it's really just marketing disguised as some kind of documentary, so that's kind of the point. I have lots of familiarity with very wealthy people with very expensive possessions (ex.: 8-figure Ferrari, anyone?) and people cant want spend, possess, and worship whatever they want. To me, it's a more emprisoning, nonsensical, and ultimately unfulfilling quest than is good for anyone in the long run. I love LPs, but in terms of pure guitar musicality and function, a great early 60s Strat is as musically wonderful as a burst; as an object of obsession, they're too abundant and inexpensive to fulfill the need to acquire for those smitten with it. It's like admission to exclusive colleges -- everyone's after what most others can't have. No need to flame me -- I know I'm an obnoxious crackpot, but more people feel like I do than feel like the delivery guy or the buyer in that video, and I'm glad that's the case. If somebody gave me that guitar, I'd sell it tomorrow.

Just realised watching this, that I would not enjoy owning one, I am so clumsy sometimes it would be too fraught an experience for me.

Same here. Although for me, it would be more of a humility thing. I don't think I could ever own a guitar that carried that much of a price tag, simply because there's so much more good I could do with that money. I'd probably end up selling it to the highest bidder and donating the money to something like a children's hospital or poor people in need.

I bought a blonde '56 Strat for $1,000 back in the 80's and I said I would never do that again...stupid money... :laugh2:

It's all relative. Now I NEVER pay under $1,000 for a guitar.

You also have the best icon on the forum....Montreux is one of my favorite places on the planet....yeah, right there.

Ya cynical bunch!

I think a really good story, and clearly moving for the new owner. I'm more humble, but did go out and order my first new Porsche in memory of my Dad when he died. Not on the basis of any inheritance, because he had made a bit of a mess of that side of things, but we both loved the cars, and he had a Porsche for a while, but it was used, and not quite as he really wanted. So the non-cynic in me gets it - we can take ownership in memory and do quite a bit more than justify materialism. Objects can be totems of something more than themselves, and if they play and sound great, so much the better.

If the day ever comes, it will be a fair bit less "picture postcard" at our house (stunning views over Burnley, Lancashire, mind you ). I hope at least as heartfelt, but any of you dealers and traders out there, better not be mint. Anything I can't play a bit without fear of scratching is of little use to me. I'll learn the whole of Heartbreaker for it though. ;)
