57 classic plus in bridge and 490r in neck.
Has anyone ever done this?
Will it be a big time mismatch do you think or not too shabby?

Would 490r be quite a bit hotter or not so much noticeable.say when playing both together in middle pickup position

According to this diagram "http://www.gibson.com/Files/_gear/datasheets/Pickup_Guide.pdf" the 490r has slightly more volume than the 57 classic wouldn´t be much difference i guess. So not so much noticeable i would say check the diagram and read about the pups in the pdf file.

I've tried it. Long time back. You can just about get away with it, but it's not ideal. The 490r has a bit too much output. I was happier with a pair of Classics or the usual classic / classic+ combo.

That's what I did. Back in the early 90s when I was a struggling musician with no money I swapped the bridge pickup to a Classic in my Les Paul first. Used it for a couple of months then swapped the neck pickup to a Classic as well. The neck one is still in that guitar!
