54 Goldtop Serial Help

So an opportunity to buy an advertised "genuine" 54 Goldtop has arisen, which would be my first "vintage" Gibson, and in looking up the serial number online it could be from 53-54 as advertised or from the 90s as a reissue. Guy says his uncle bought it in the 80s-90s, the headstock looks worn as does the lifton case but no obvious signs of checking on the body- the photos are low res though so would travel to see of course. Serial number reads 4 0377. Anyone shed some light?
