First of all, hey! I spend more time each day reading posts here on MLP, so I thought I might as well join in:)

My 2005 LP Custom is getting an upgrade next week; 2 RS superpots and 2 CTS 500k's, along with some repro Bumble Bee's. But, adding spin a split would be pretty cool.. I know there's a way you can use the pot as both a tone pot and SAS, but I would much rather have one master tone knob, and use the other for a broader range of split sounds..

So....would it be possible to wire up a 2 pickup Les Paul with spin a split and master tone?

Which pickup do you want to spin-a-split? Neck or bridge?

Ok, and does your '59b have four conductor cable?

Perfect, then you have everything you need. A spin-a-split pot is an easy concept; the only weird thing is implementing "50's wiring" on this project.

50's wiring is just the tone controls acting after the pickups go through the volume controls...so in order to have a master tone that does this, what you can do is instead of wiring the toggleswitch's output directly to the jack, you wire it to the Master Tone pot and then to the jack.

So...something like this:

Thanks a lot:thumb:

My neck pickup is the stock 490r, single conductor. Does that matter?

Don't thank me just yet, if you go ahead and wire it this way, post your results!

Regarding the 490R, it doesn't matter if you know what to do with the single conductor, lol. Treat it as the black wire (solder to volume pot lug) and treat the outer braided shield as the green/bare wire (solder to back of pot/ground spot).

If you're the one doing the soldering, just make sure that the braided shield is pushed back and not touching any lugs or anything.

My recent effort to change to 50's wiring resulted in a broken volume pot so... I'm not the one doing the soldering, no, haha! :D

Sure, I'll post some results!
