Hey,
As i was going through the catalog from the last few years, it looks like the 50's Neck 58's 59's Rounded Neck profile is becoming rarer except the traditional and the Historic

it looks like the slim taper is taking over from the last few years.

If a fella needs to buy a relatively new 2001 onward without breaking the bank ( under 1500$) with a rounded neck which models would i consider?

Non Gibson models are also welcome

Yes ....I have the 2013 Traditional+. The neck is quite hefty. Be careful though because there were slim versions too. Usually when you see one posted used they will state '50's neck if it has one.

Unless you go '13 or '14 traditional, the "rounded" is still somewhat of a crapshoot. There were a couple models in the '15 model year (deluxes and traditional) that had the "rounded XL" or something like that, that would give you a handful since they had the beefy neck + the wider fretboard.

I have a '15 Les Plus which is spec'd as a "rounded" profile that fits the hand very nicely and feels very much like my Travis Bean with a 1 3/4" string width.

Gibson is so hit or miss with their labeling, I had a '13 future tribute with a "slim taper" neck that was larger than any '50s necked Gibson I've ever owned (calipered). I bought two more and they were both pencil thin, so even within models there is a TON of variance.

At the end of the day, you'll need measurements or just get it in your hands. 2 seconds in the hand is better than anything.

not all* can play with a fat round shape of the late-50’s neck. Slim necks are more comfortable to most players.

the LPJs are supposed to have pretty beefy necks, never had one. Played a few LPMs which had good sized necks, but were maple, if that makes a difference. To me its a +, but quite a few look down on them for some reason. Again, most '15s will have the wider fretboard, that will give the feeling of a "bigger" neck without actually, necessarily being deeper.

I've had several '00s studios that had pretty substantial necks.

There have been more than a few models the last few years that sparked my interest until I read the spec sheet, which is still a crapshoot, but I don't know a guitar shop that has multiple Vs, Explorers and Firebirds for me to test.

They're losing a chunk, but the "slim taper" fits more, so I understand why they do it... More money in my pocket I guess

I understand, its the amount sold that matters. Hope they keep the traditional line alive

Edit: and affordable :-D

Another vote for 2013 traditional; mine has the neck I'd been wanting for years. Have not calipered it but specs indicate .090 at first fret and .100 at 12th.
The fattest neck I've ever seen was on an original 52 LP I came across at the Orlando guitar show, it felt like a slimmed down double bass neck!

Right, the Trad Pros had the slim taper necks. My 2013 Trad had the fattest neck I ever had on a guitar. My 2014 Trad is a little slimmer, more in line with my R6.

Yeah, this. And, I should have clarified that the LPJ's have maple necks too. Apologies.

Also, the 2018 Junior has a 50's neck. Should be mentioned as it's under (barely) the $1500. mark.

Thanks, but sorry Buddy, I'm not a fan of new Gibsons. I've learnt to buy used but in good condition from lurking in these forums.
and the 2019 line is not my cup of tea
