Friday- I get amps+pedals set up. Grab my Lp Special. I make sure that I use all my gear. If I own it it gets use. I wipe off the Special-clean guitars play better.
Wipe wipe wipe------OH NO! BROKE MY HIGH E string!
In the past I would've
Got out a new pack of strings. 11 minutes later-brand new strings that need to be stretched. By the time I got down to creating- I was "soft".
No more
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I did not let a broken string kill the mood. I went back to my guitar tree and took down by 5 string Yammy SSC 500- my "Keith" guitar for "company."
"Yammy, meet your new 5 string brother."
"Hi."
"Hi."
Thte Special sounded real fine. By losing the high E I "opened" up my playing. B string was begging to be bent. Chords have different sounds.

After a lovely jam- I wrote a new song and found countless voicings. I decided to keep my Special a 5 stringer. Less is ALWAYS more. The lessson? When the amps are warm NEVER let a broken string stop the flow. Adapt or wither. I will never let inspiration die. Break a middle string? Time to create a new tuning.
Here is the master on his Newman 5 string.
