23 guitars: 18 Historics, 2 1968 LPs, 2 Guild F50s, 1 Taylor 12 string. But I do not own most of them anymore.

First let me say that this is not spam; I do not get any compensation for any of this. I have never been paid in any way for playing guitar. (Maybe one day I will be good enough!)

I have loaded most of my Historic demo videos to Photobucket. I am hoping that Alex will soon allow auto embedding for that web site or else allow HTML in the Historic forum. I am able to embed Photobucket in the Historic section of the other LP forum. Youtube's copyright police have gone overboard, muting the audio or blocking most of my videos - especially the latest ones. They have done this, even though I am using the material within the parameters of the fair and legal use clause of the copyright law. And Youtube does not even mute / block consistently within my own account or from one account to the next. I have some videos where I use the same backing track but cover using different guitars; one video is muted / blocked, the other is not. And then there are other Youtube users who are doing the exact same thing as me, yet their videos are not muted / blocked. So I started putting my videos on Metacafe. But there are way too many commercials. I have a paid Photobucket account. That one is more convenient, though the quality is not quite as good. Plus they turn the audio into "mono" from stereo.

This collection took nearly 4 years to accumulate. I have other videos that are not on this list. But this list represents at least one version of each LZ song I have covered. And it represents most of the Historics I have demo'd, though maybe not all of them. I had to draw the line somewhere though. Many of the guitars I demo'd used the same songs; I did not want 9 versions of the same song. Though a couple of them in this list are used a few times. I should probably redo the oldest ones. For the earliest ones, I recorded the guitar with the backing track (like a live band). As time went by I began mixing the backing track separately from the guitar. I got a much better result but the production side took a lot more time. Additionally, as time went by, I began holding myself to a little higher standard playing-wise. So I practiced before recording a little more. And there were a lot more re-takes! That is probably because I go weeks without playing at all between projects (new guitar demos or new song demos). At the time of this post, it has been since April 6 since I have played (when I made the newest videos in the list below). But if I spent all that time since then playing guitar, I would not have time to shop for new guitars and window shop for my friends! LOL

There are 45 total videos currently. The first 28 are on Page 1, the rest are on Page 2. Here is the link to Page 1:

For quality comparison, compare this video on Photobucket versus Youtube. Youtube kept the two guitars in separate speakers. But Photobucket combined both guitars into both speakers. Plus on Youtube you can switch the video to 1080p since these were recorded in HD. So it sounds better & looks better on Youtube. But they block just about everything!

You can play the songs, why don't you try playing in a band instead of doing the recordings? Maybe a Zepplin tribute band or, better, an original band. You will be limited in how good you will get playing by yourself...and it is a lot more fun playing for other people. Don't get me wrong, your videos are good, but there is more fun to be had.

John, nice job. I appreciate all of your contributions to the forum.

Play guitar wherever you want. But you should clean, wax, and detail your car :laugh2:

I did the band thing. Takes too much time and too much drama. Guitars are just a hobby for me - playing, shopping, buying, selling, helping friends do the same. No time for a band.

Bands can be drama but usually when your trying to make a living with it or if you have too much ego involved. Most of my buddies just want to play...we grew up together and know many of the same tunes. We have literally drawn up a set list, practiced on our own at home, done 2 practices and then played an event. Would be a little harder now that we have not been playing as much.

To each his own.....if you don't like the band thing, you could do open mike nights. A least most places I lived, there are clubs that have a band set up, you show up with you guitar, others show up (drummers, bass etc) and you just go play....usually classic stuff like Zeppelin etc that everyone knows.

Anyway, I get tired of playing the same stuff all the time and I get tired of just my own playing to be honest. Other people give you new ideas and new places to go. But I get bored easily with repetition so there you go. I just figured since you a primarily focused on Zeppelin you might enjoy playing in a tribute band or similar. :thumb: either way, it is all about having fun.

And then, there is a lot to said for just playing what you want, when you want. I enjoy writing & recording. I enjoy recording covers, too.

I get what JimmyAce says about the hassle of playing out. It's fun and it sucks, at the same time.

As long as you PLAY - that's all that matters!

Agree with much of this. Seems ashame that he doesn't get out there.

What a great collection of songs you have mastered! Nice work my friend. And it is nice to see that recording in there using my 68 Gold Top :)

Bands can be great fun with the right bunch folks. Sounds like you might not have found the right people yet - there should be no drama.

Yes, the 68 Gold Top is now yours! The 68 Custom belongs to a guy named Freddie who has not been on this forum in a while. Would like to own them all but I can't!

As for those who should be in bands, I know plenty of really beautiful ladies (none who are dating me of course) who "should" be supermodels & get out there for everyone to see, but they don't. It isn't for everyone. Like them, I have other interests. Though I do appreciate the kind words. And BTW, for those who made the kind comments, it isn't like I turned on the camera & sat down & recorded those videos in one take & posted online. Most of them involved a lot of practice in the days leading up to the recording (and I don't usually play otherwise, between video recordings or between buying new guitars), and many re-takes. So I am not good enough to sit down & nail all of those first try. The only one of those videos I did that on was the Heartbreaker solo on that LP Custom blue burst silver sparkle.....ironically, that guitar also happened to have perhaps the largest neck on a LP that I have ever owned. :thumb:

thanks, I've belonged to both les paul forums and gear page for many years . I've seen most of your vids read and lot of your posts.

I just thought I would thank you for all the work you put into this so others could hear different guitars and amps and some may have learned some great guitar parts along the way.:applause:
