so, you have to allow the defense to catch up? thats really a dumb rule. if you arent smart enough to not allow the opponents to get behind you, the rules shouldnt bail you out.

Yes, I know it sounds ridiculous at first. It took me a while to understand it too.

The point of the offside rule is to prevent attacking players from perpetually camping in front of the opponent's goal.

Defense is always zone, not man to man, it doesn't work like that.

Same as hockey... can't just sit in front of the net.

Hockey not big in Ghana.

not the same at all. In hockey there is a definite line you cant cross. In soccer it moves depending on defensive alignment. Makes it pretty abitrary and a judgement call depending on player position. Bails out bad defensive play, if someone gets behind you, you can ignore them. Just let them all get behind you. Cuz they cant receive the ball? Thats stupid

No, that's the offside trap. It's a strategy. It's ok not to understand it :)

I don't get the hockey red line blue line nonsense either. :laugh2: But I bet if I spent a few minutes reading about it I could understand it.

I hope it's not in the Canadian citizenship test.

its simple. puck must cross the blue line prior to any offensive player crossing the blue line

Japan’s players and staff left their locker room spotless after the game, with origami and thank you notes for the hosts. Their fans helped pick up the trash in the stands. They also did this in previous World Cups. That's a nice culture clash.

I'm looking for some Japanese people to invite to my place...
and then having them leave.

My new x-ray eye is seeing right through this thing they call football. It's really shitty. I know it's the first stage and playing to a 0-0 is not a bad thing. It's just no fun. This had better get better real quick or it's "Love Boat" and "Leave it to Beaver".

I wish they would broadcast the grounds crew cutting the grass and making it look so nice. I would rather watch that.

I'm trying so hard to watch this. I can't see how a few billion people think this game is interesting. :hmm:

Smaller field with 10 foot high walls you can bounce-pass off of would be good.

One hour of penalty kicking, each team a half-hour would be good.
