Hey all, I removed the pickups to have a look inside the cavities, and there is blue paint below the black. Now I’m wondering if this is the normal process for ebony colored guitars or some type of mistake ? It seems to look like pelham blue, and thought maybe it was supposed to be that color but someone screwed up the application so it was then overpainted black, but I don’t see any pelham blue customs on the Gibson website at the moment. Pic below anyway, just wondering if anyone can enlighten.

Looks like your guitar was maybe painted blue at one point. That is kind of awesome if you play the heck out of it and the black wears out into blue!

Other than that, honestly your fiddling with this thing to much, some guitars lose their mojo by doing unnecessary inspections like this.

If it has actually been painted over with black over blue then you best send it back. You don’t need all that extra plasticizer to be a blanket on your guitar.

I have a Made to Measure LP Custom with Cardinal Red back and sides with an Ebony top. Interestingly enough, the custom shop applied the Ebony over the Cardinal Red. Over time, the red will peek through as the black wears.

See my pic below to see the red underneath the black where the paint slightly chipped by the pot hole.

Love the black top over the red but I’d be pissed about the double paint.

Thanks!

The double paint doesn’t bug me. It’s pretty unique and will have some super interesting wear marks as it ages. Red showing through black? I think it’ll look rad.
