Yeah, for my taste the translucent is better looking.Welcome to the club and Congrats!
The early ones did have the translucent backs. My understanding is recent years have the black backs. I've not seen a more recent one in the wild, so can't comment. But if so, thats a really disappointing change.
Nope.Yeah, I love that new Slasher of yours. All other things being equal (condition, case, etc.), the Slash seems to be the more valuable of the two guitars that were traded. Did you have to sweeten the pot on the trade of the Classic with some cash or anything? If not, man, then I think you got a killer deal in addition to a killer guitar.
That looks exactly like my old 1983 Les Paul Standard,.. I removed the covers on mine as well,.. though mine had Norlin Shaws. Long gone to some lucky patron of Barker’s Music in Modesto California. I traded it for a custom ordered String and Things “Saint Blues” brand Eliminator 2,. with a Kahler trem. Look that up.Swapped a 2022 Cherry Red Les Paul Classic for it today…
I was surprised that the back was translucent dark brown and not black like the internet always says.
I’m happy.

Wow, yes, very cool, especially for 1983 ... a great year, btw. But - surprise, surprise - I bet you wish you had the Les Paul back, huh? LOLThat looks exactly like my old 1983 Les Paul Standard,.. That’s the St. Blues,.. it had a Tele like headstock that was painted to match the body. It was a great guitar, but it didn’t stay with me long either. Though it does escape me what actually happened to it. Traded it for some kind of recording gear I bet.Wow, yes, very cool, especially for 1983 ... a great year, btw.
