Looks like there might be a lot of blue color in the room maybe? Take it outside and see how it looks if you have not done so already.

I saw an R7 in person from 2020 and it was super green. I think that's the new formula for this year. Would look cooler on an aged one maybe?

NGD!!! but not too much celebrating...today I got a new 2020 1954 reissue VOS, and can't seem to understand what the CS have done to the goldtop finish. It looks dull, too green...nothing like my other cs goldtops.
Very frustrated...maybe I'll get used to it in time, maybe not...
I think it’s absolutely gorgeous personally, but that’s pretty subjective.

I like it, but I'm tipsy, off center, and I like all gold tops even though my Tribute GT is quite dull.

Edited to change "full" to "dull"

I recall the VOS back in 06/07 was the staple for a worn/broken in type feel and finish. I'm not familiar at all with today's VOS standards.

Looks like they broke out the old "Buillion Gold" from the original "1960 Classic" model.... agree, it ain't the right shade...

Looks like a combination of cool lighting and the finish itself... does anyone know if all 2020 Goldtop RI are like this?

To me it looks very much like the original old gold tops. I never liked the more yellowgold/orange ones. Those look to new and modern.

The classics from the 90s were more of a pale yellow/green or too orange/red like the boullions.

Yours looks very nice, with the right amount of vintage green imo. Goes very well with the soapbars and stoptail! Congrats!

In my opinion, 2012 was the last year that the Custom Shop had the formula right. In 2013, they started screwing around with the formula. They made it WAY too green unless it's in direct light or preferably sun light. As the years went on it just got worse. A Goldtop will naturally green with age, and that's how it should be unless a customer specifically asks for it pre-greened. It's definitely that old case of "if it's not broke, don't fix it." I would try to find a used 2012 or earlier R7, R6, or R4.

There was a video discussing the new Gibson changes and mentioned change in gold top coloring last year (2019). The color mixing change is a tip of the hat to the old coloring mix of the 50s-60s.

Since only one person has touched on it, the finish is likely dull due to it being a VOS model. You could polish it to a shine in about 5 minutes if you wanted to.

How does it play?

I'd rub some saline solution on it and let 'er rip. JMHO.

To the OP and/or anyone bringing up lighting maybe as the reason it appears green - I bought a 2020 R7 with a Darkback a few months ago - was very excited about receiving it as I always wanted a Darkback goldtop - I couldn’t have been more disappointed from the moment I opened the case - it’s so green - like puke green - I had a 2018 R7 and foolishly sold it last year - they’re still calling the 2020 finish “double gold” so I thought it would be the same - my wife (who normally doesn’t care too much about my guitars) actually laughed when she saw it - needless to say I pretty much immediately packed it back up and returned it - I don’t know what Gibson was thinking with this color - fortunately I was able to pick up another 2018 goldtop a few weeks ago w/ a Brazilian board (NOS from Panther Guitars) - now I’m happy as a clam again with my non-green goldtop :)
I attached a few pics of my new 2018 model for reference.
