I’m thinking about putting some push-pull pots in my original ‘60s.

I tried to take the current ones out to take a look, and to see if I need long shafts, but the plate with the pots won’t come out. I can’t get it farther than the point where the ends of the pot shafts are even with the top of the guitar.

I hadn’t desoldered anything, but none of the wires look like they are stopping anything. In the photos I’ve tucked the wires to the pickups and selector switch back into the channel. There’s actually quite a bit of slack in these. It almost seems that there’s a hidden wire, like the string grounding wire, on the other side of the plate.

So, what wires need to be desoldered to get this out? Or are there any tricks to do it.

Does anyone know if long shaft pots are needed or will standard ones work?

With the plate it requires long shaft pots.

Not sure what's holding the plate back. I would suggest the bare ground wire that goes to the bridge. But I only have experience with Norlin and Historics and things may be laid out differently.
