Idk a deeper dish carve isn't something I'm into. I've seen a few gold tops with deep dish and I don't like it. I'm fine with way my Les Paul's carve is. Historic accurate....like they were ALL cut deep... lol

Glad I have no GAS at all for a another R. I barely have time to touch what's listed in my signature. And I'm playing about 75% Fender Custom Shop anyway nowadays. Fender is just killing Gibson in the custom shop department in every way the past few years;

This is where I'm at as well BD

Still about half the price of an aged/signed CC. I've been quoted in the mid 5's from authorized dealers on Dale Wilson/John Cruz strats. 2 year wait though.

I'm surprised Gibson hasn't figured out a way to further rip people off via the masterbuilt route.

I agree that they are bolt on guitars but if you've played a few masterbuilts, they are a notch above and the buyer is so intimately involved in the build. My friend who has a MB was texting daily with the masterbuilder and the painter exchanging pictures/ideas. Part of the cost is paying for that experience.

They have, it's called Tom Murphy sprayed/aged...8K!!!!!

As to the Fender CS masterbuilds, I wouldn't pay more than 5K for one honestly. And I wouldn't want a lot of aging done, as to me artificial aging on strats still just doesn't look right. it's gotten better but it still looks contrived. I'm all for supporting and appreciating the fine expert craftmanship these skilled workers possess but my appreciation has financial limits....and quite frankly a masterbuilt hand made strat from top to bottom isn't worth a 2y and 5-6K pricetag to me.

You could get whatever aging you want. I get it. It's expensive no doubt. I don't have one but am considering it. I can justify mid 5's way more than I can justify the price of an aged/signed CC which would be Gibson's highest prices offering no? Just like Masterbuilt is Fenders.

Honestly, you don't even need to go to the Custom shop level. My 16 Elite strat's workmanship, frets, etc are every bit as good as my Gibson and Fender custom shop guitars.

I just got into Historics and reissues this past year. I don't think another guitar can beat one, if it's made well. But the prices and my perceived quality of what I've seen, are going to make me sit on the sidelines this year. If I get a Gibson in 2017, it's going to be used.

I mean it's pointless to try to convince people how great Fender Custom Shop stuff on a Gibson forum. I think they are both awesome. One isn't better than the other.

Fender CS Strat vs. Gibson CS LP. Apples to Oranges. Very few people are building quality LP's in their basement. Don't get me wrong, love me a nice Strat. I have had a few USACG beauties built for me in my time.

I've played a few full on 'custom shop' Fenders and they are good. I agree the comparison is much like six of one, half a dozen of the other. Both great in their respective fields.

I think it's just quality per price point. In that case I don't see a comparison, but you all know where my heart lies. Still love gibson though. Just wish they weren't such unlikable bastards
