Hi all,

I looked into the 2016 Les Paul Standard T line because i'm interested in a Goldtop Standard. So far i've only done research on the internet, because there's no (abundance of) guitarshops that carry this particular model in Belgium at the moment.

Now it appeared to me that the color of the 2016 goldtop has much more sparkle in it than for example a 2012 goldtop. The 2016 color also seems more gold and less "yellow" than before.

If I take the following ebay ads:
2008:
Gibson Les Paul Standard Gold Top Electric Guitar USA 2008 | eBay

2009 Gibson Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar Gold Top w OHSC | eBay

2016:
Gibson 2016 Les Paul Standard LP Premium UNPLAYED OHSC No Autotune Gold Top | eBay

Gibson 2016 Les Paul Standard Gold Top w Case | eBay

Can anyone that has seen both confirm that the color has more sparkle and is less yellow?

Thanks a lot forum-ers!

Well I do remember that about in 2013 they introduced a new gold finish, but as far as I heard that was for the Historic line, not sure about the USA line...
With the historics you had 2 finishes (although, and if i remeber correctly, under the same name - antique gold) a nice sprkly "honey" gold and another version, sort of aged, with a subtle but well present tint of green.

Very different (same model) guitars.
2008 is chambered

Had a chambered and sold it because i didnt want my only LP being from a non traditional construction or woods

that's (sorta) funny because the chambered ones seem to have that vocal/woody/'Tele on steroids' sound that the late 50's one's are so known for.

check it out...

same pickups, same amp,...the actual 59 sounds like 'a tele on steroids' ..it's even way louder unplugged then the reissue is..with .9 gauge strings.

I was never into chambered LP's either,..it's not traditional.

But when I realized the sound they make is (imo) more traditional sounding then the solid modern ones.....

Chambered LP's have that loud, 'Tele on Steroids' sound,...they even have that loud ringing when played unplugged just like the '59 in this video does.

..I find that sort of interesting, myself.

they may not be traditional because they're chambered, but the sound they make is traditional.

...why that is I have no idea. :dunno:

They have been using bullion gold on some recent models. It's definitely looks more golden and less yellow.

This:

As opposed to this:

Yeah the 2008 and 2009 are both Chamber type guitars which is good if you have back and shoulder problems.

Thanks guys!

I am aware that it's 2 very different guitars with the chambered/weight relieve difference. But my question is indeed purely about the cosmetics (you may call me shallow :)).

If someone has them both in one picture it would be great to see the difference.

@chipbutty24: nice one, you can really see the subtle sparkle in that top!
