2016 Les Paul Std - is this 'normal'?

Looking at a 2016 Les Paul Std Trad in Honeyburst. See attached pic of body just below the neck. Is this normal? Doesn't look like a great quality finish on a £2K guitar to me but I don't own any others to compare against!

What? The maple cap reveal underneath the binding?

Every single LP has that (unless mahogany top or opaque colored... you get the idea).

You talking about, where the maple cap shows?

They used to make the binding really fat there, to cover it up. Looked pretty funny

Thanks Lipinhu, I've never noticed before and having just got this one home and noticed it I was hoping it wasn't a fault.

Looks a bit odd to me now that I've noticed it! I'll try to put it out of my mind now :)

Thanks for pointing that out. I never knew it existed until I read this post and have to check on my LP. I guess that's normal. :D

Yeah the originals were like that, then they went to a wide binding in the cut away and only reissues had the maple peaking out. Now they all have the small binding again.
