Judging from the pictures, the V now has body binding, inline controls, no guard and no pickup covers. Looks like they put the jack back on top of the Firebird.

They just went back to old specs. The V is the old traditional pro model from 2012. They blew them out for $799 at the end of 2013, so the price is right.

Whats the differance that the 2016 Firebirds T and Flying V T
have from last years and pass few years of guitars?
I know that the new ones come with a gig bag instead of a hard shell case.
But by looking at these guitars they don't look any different then the pass few years? and the price is much lower then pass years.......................JT

Gibson 2016 Flying V Pro T | Musician's Friend

Gibson 2016 Firebird T Vintage Sunburst | Musician's Friend

the bird comes with a hard case, according to the link you posted.

They both look BADASS, IMO...

If you read the Firebird specs they say "traditional Firebird minihumbuckers". I guess that means the ceramic minis are gone?

Some V spec's from the Gibson site. The Ebony model looks killer!

  • Bound solid mahogany body with 4% percent reduction in size
  • Thin, fast '60s SlimTaper™ neck profile
  • Bound Rosewood fingerboard with acrylic dot inlays
  • Exposed zebra-coil '57 Classic in the neck and a slightly hotter Burstbucker 3 in the bridge
  • TonePros® Vintage Kluson® button tuners with 16:1 tuning ratio

Seems that the V and firebirds have been reduced in price?
2015 Firebirds were selling for $1700 out the door and the Vs with binding for about the same price. All come with gig bags and still a great price when you add a 15% off at MF and around $950.(Guess Gibson had too lower their prices since less people were buying these guitars}...............JT

Wow..I want the firebird. I spent $100 more than that for a used 2011 model. They appear to be the same.

Musician Friend's specs say "Electronics feature a hot 496 Rhythm and a 500 Treble humbucker with powerful ceramic magnets"

Perhaps they haven't updated them yet. I would think Gibson would be more accurate unless this is a "MF exclusive " model

That fu***ng slim taper. Why they don't put a nice '50s rounded on a Flying V TRADITIONAL? Some '50s specs, please, according to the tradition :)

Anyway, I'm thinking about buying the Fbird in the next future, too. I'm hoping they son't put ceramic "minibuckers" on her, but I assume that my prayers won't be granted..

I love the look of the 2016 Flying V Pro T. No pickguard, body binding, zebra humbuckers. Why can't they do that to the Explorer? I'd definitely snap one up.

Sorry to revive an old post but didn't want to start a new one. Does anyone know how many of these were made in 2016? Was this guitar a model made for Guitar Center or was it a standard Gibson catalog item? I just picked one up and would like the history.

Thx,
