So for those of you here who have a new 2014 Gibson and have lived with the new Clear tones strings fitted on them..have you any opinions on how they feel, sound and play.

I think they are ok. I never kept them on for very long (as I took the min etunes off), however my classic still has a set on. They feel good, and certainly last longer than the previous type. I never really did a side by side of them so Im not sure how they color the tone.

I've bought four new Gibson's this year. I don't like the fact they went from 10-46 to 9-46. The Cleartone's last twice as long from a rust standpoint but since they cost four times as much I don't see the point.

I pulled the Cleartones off my 2014 LPJ just a day after buying it... couldn't vibe with them. They just sounded and felt like cheap strings. Strung up a set of Gibson Les Paul strings (.010s) and those were the worst damn strings I've ever played. Swapped them out the same day for a set of Elixir Nanowebs (.009s). If you're looking for coated strings, the Elixirs smoke the Cleartones. I'm very happy with the nanowebs, being a regular player of EB Slinkies.

Strings are the first things that I ditch with a new guitar. Gone within an hour or two. Need to oil the board, polish the frets, etc... hard to do with strings on.

No experience with cleartone strings

I stay away from anything hyped to last longer

I tried some coated strings and hated them. They sounded new longer, but if you don't like the sound to begin with... Kinda defeats the purpose. Soured my experience w/ "new tech" strings.

...But my buddy won't put anything but elixir on his axe, so they must appeal to some.

Normally upon getting a new guitar, I change the strings anyway, like most people.

Cleartones resist corrosion for sure, but flop around like rubber bands with a mind of their own. Weird tensions. Tried two sets, same same. Harsh tone IMO as well comparing them to several other big name NPS strings.

Not a fan.

Brite Wires were great strings.

I like my Brite's as well on my Bona which is quite dark where as I like Signature's on my others.

Only played the cleartones on my newly arrived today.. 2014 Signature and initial impression is not negative but I am sure I will change to one of the above.

Lucky for me?I don't sweat on the fingers so a protection layer does not do much for me...its all about the tone, feel and the bend given.

I corrode some brands, and some I do not, but I have yet to find a coated string I like for tone and feel, along with corrosion resistance, but like guitars, strings are very personal.

You might have better luck with the bridge pickup on your new guitar changing out those cleartones. I had the same issue with the Super57 on my classic.
