Ok...react to the point of making holes in the nitro?...mostly Budweiser lately...the king of beers has it in for my guitar?...yeesh!..maybe I spilled some and didn't think much of it Also the cats like to knock things over as they play..so it's conceivable it could have happened...

Could it be possible someone sprayed air freshner or something that could've come from an aerosol can?

Used some compressed air in a can on my old Pro Reverb .used the tiny red tube to direct it, didn't get it near a guitar...that's all I can think of..

Curious to see what a luther says about this. I've been playing Les Pauls for 44 years and seen some strange things happen to them but never something quite like this. Def looks to me like some kind of liquid got on it.

Last Gibson I saw that had finish damage kinda like that was from Off bug spray
A friend had a LP on a stand in his motor home and got overspray on his.
Marks were similar, lacquer looked melted or dissolved

Any chance some cleaner was sprayed near it?

overspray from some chemical no doubt seems to me. PAM cooking spray?. Got an AC vent close by and per chance use pan tabs with chlorine or biocide in the unit to keep slime down ?

Taste it see what it taste like. Go ahead lick your guitar we wont tell anyone :)
