Hey yall! I put this les paul on layaway at guitar center because i never like les pauls but totally fell in love with this one. Everything seems legit with it, but it doesnt have nibs for some reason. Id assume refret since its fairy played, but was curious to any other explanations

Those frets look Jumbo and should have nibs. However don't let that discourage it as it comes down the to playability and sound.

In other words if you love it, TAKE IT.
If you like it well keep looking because you don't love it.

Im totally getting it, just was curious as to the nibs. Hands down the best les paul ive ever felt by a long shop, and ive been looking for a good les paul for a couple years now.

Also not shocked because it seems to be pretty modded, no push pull pots and new pickups

There's been a lot of work done to it,.... Those tuners are not Standard for 2012 either. Could very well be re-fretted.... which throws out the window that bi-layered fretboards can't be re-fretted. 2012 Standards have two piece fretboards and the common rumour is that the fretboard would come apart if re-fretted.

If you can,... get a close up pic of the frets.

I'm not totally convinced it's a Standard,... could be a Classic or a Trad.

Well, a '12 Spec should have Grover Locking tuners. The fretboard is pretty blond which was kinda normal for the time. Never heard of anyone not being able to refret a '12. Shouldn't be a problem if they know what they're doing. The bridge and tailpiece should be TonePro's. The '12 should have push-pull on all the knobs but with the pickups being replaced with SDs, they may have replaced the electronics. The knobs have been replaced too. They should be amber. The top is pretty strippy which was a hallmark of the '12s. Gibson switched their technique which made the tops pop a lot more than before. The sure way would be to look under the bridge pickup for the LPNS writing.

Looks like an actual guitar player corrected the stupid $#it that was deficient with the 2012 LP Standard & made a highly playable Les Paul. Doesn't playability matter more than original condition & or looks in a 2012?? Who GAF about a 2012? Seriously.. who?
Only if you are a guitar player that wants to play to the best of their ability I guess eh? Posers & collectors be damned.
If anything the plus side warrants a price break due to (lack of) original condition! That my friend is a win win!

Those frets do look like a refret that has already been worn through enough to warrant a proper fret dressing!

& That usually tells me this guitar has mad mojo that is just begging to be played! And odds are it probably sounds god-like!
Hey, What would Jesus play?

& not fet nut'n,.. Fvk those useless nibs bruh! Yes I hate useless plastic where metal fret should be, so fvk'n what!? Stupidest gotdam thing anybody ever came up with to save a penny!

You get yours boyee! And enjoy the hell out of it!

My 2012 Trad has fret nibs... That's interesting

By the way, you are gonna hear about the 2012 guitars having two piece lamintated fretboards. DO NOT let that bother you or affect your decison making. It had me overthinking a lot before I bought my 2012, and it is badass instrument and I don't care if it's a two piece board or not. If I ever find another one in that year range where they used 2 piece boards that I want, I wouldn't think twice.

Just a little advice for you if people come on here screaming about the lamintaed board. Don't let it affect your decision at all. It is not of less quality, it doesn't feel different, it doesn't fall apart, etc... Just a change Gibson had to do at the time because they got raided for the wood they were using.

You can also make the conclusion that this guitar was modded so many times it failed to satisfy.... that is why it’s for sale.

Don’t forget the modern weight relief and it should have a long neck tenon like my 2013.... though if it’s not a Standard it will not. Trads and Classics do not.

Here’s under the neck pup of my 2013 Standard

Its got crazy mojo, i fell in love with it instantly, i perfer the guitars with this kind of personality anyways. Sounds killer and somehow plays even better. Was cheaper than a new lp studio

The nibs look nice but functionally I'd rather not have them. Over time gaps start between the fret and binding and the string gets stuck in it.

I'm considering having my Custom refretted. Since I believe this guitar will be a "lifer" I won't be asking them to keep the nibs.
