Ordered aged pickups from amber. Will be fascinating to hear how my made over R0 sounds. An acquaintance of mine has a real burst and I'd like to hear how they will sound side by side.

Can't wait! :thumb:

OK guys. It's been a while and it's an uncomfortably hot and sultry evening here beside the Thames in East London (around 95F earlier today - haven't had anything like that since I lived in DC). But I don't care. Because I'm rocking out here with Zep live at the LA Forum blasting through the hi-fi, a glass of Yamazaki 12 year beside me, and about to deliver to the good readers of MLP a slew of pictures of my R0 from Oberstdorf. The makeover is complete and I am stunned! I CANNOT wait to plug this baby in and rock OUT!

The pictures will speak for themselves but as you will see, Florian finished buffing before moving to the final steps in this process. There is no real deliberate or obvious ageing, just a very little light finish checking. I asked Florian to think what a burst would look like aged 21, in the year of my birth, 1980 and, by jove... he nailed it if you ask me. The super thin finish will continue to age and check naturally over the years to come.

The frets are dressed (oh man, look at that board) and the parts fitted. The silkscreen printed, the grovers drilled. Amber Spirit of 59s mounted and wired up with Russian PIO caps. Just looking at the photos I'm almost dumbstruck. She is beautiful and I cannot wait to plug her into my Lionheart and just let rip. The Montreux parts and the original gold grovers look the business. She ain't going to be no case queen though. She'll take pride of place on the rack where I can (and will, oh yes) reach for her any time.

In a few days I'll have her in my hands and can give you a sound report. Florian says she sounds absolutely killer. I believe him.

Great finish choice for the top and back. Congrats. Looking forward to your comparison to your buddies vintage LP.

Aargh! Guitar due today but Channel Tunnel strike has delayed a whole bunch of UPS traffic. Hopefully will get it Thurs or Fri now. This is worse than waiting for Christmas!

Whats going on along the binding?
Bleeding is ok, but there are some scraping and masking issues there also.

Well folks. It arrived. One word: incredible.

I can't believe my eyes or my ears (or my nose... Yes it even smells vintage!)

Beautifully set up and oozes mojo. The sound is definitely there. Acoustically it just rings and plugged in it's divine. the neck pickup is stunning. Clear and articulate but with warmth and character. The bridge pickup just screams vintage, there's a throatiness to the sound that almost reminds me of the p90s in 56GT I played recently.

This one was definitely worth waiting for. Florian does amazing work. Once I get a minute I'll try to record some clips and put on soundcloud.

More pics to follow but for now here are a few quick and dirty sound clips recorded this morning via a Yamaha THR (reverb added). The levels are way high on the second mp3 (bridge blues) so you might want to turn your volume down for that one (but up again for the other tracks where the levels are way low - still learning my way round cubase)!

Hopefully these clips give you an idea of the amplified sound (and my scrappy playing and iffy timing without a drummer). Not the same as plugging into a real amp I realise, but gives you an impression. (The sound through my Laney Lionheart, cranked, is fantastic).

The makeover has definitely altered the sound of the guitar. I can appreciate that that's a great deal to do with the new pickups (which are unreal) and electronics but the axe is definitely louder acoustically and plugged into a real amp there's a vitality to the sound that is definitely different from before the makeover.

I live the vibe.
But Florian need to improve his scraping.
Is this gunk or nitro under the clear coat?

There are also 2 black paintsplatter marks. :(

it's not bad scraping... it's from the paint running under the masking tape.
