I have yet to play a 2012. None of the shops around me have them. I'm wondering how different the neck feels compared to the 2011 model.

I found a 2011 model for only $1999 and I'm trying to decide if it's worth picking that one up for that price or waiting and spending an additional $600 for the 2012... The 2012 certainly has a lot of electronic upgrades, but I'll be honest, I don't really use coil tapping all that much on my Studio. I'm always using the humbuckers. I have used coil tapping once and that was when I first purchased the guitar and was like "Oh neat, coil tapping..." :laugh2:

If you're really in Atlanta I find that hard to believe GC doesn't have them yet?

I like the new neck profile and compound radius fretboard

Go play one, totally different that the 2011 model which really is the 2008 Standard.

Most people are getting 15% off the new 2012's and about $2200 for trans finished ones.

If it were me I'd get the 2012 model but you really need to check em both out in person to see which one you prefer. I'll also throw the Traditional Plus in the mix for you to try too. I love the 50's neck on them

It would be hasty to not just try all 3 (Trad, 2012 & 2011) prior to purchase.
It all comes down to preference. I had a gorgeous 2010 that I loved, which I sold after purchasing my 2012 and was planning on keeping it. The 2012 was just that much better...

Nope. I have checked all of the guitar center's in my area. The Atlanta location had a Gold top but it was sold. They have nothing else in the 2012's. Sam Ash has nothing and neither does Ken Stanton.

I tried talking to MusiciansFriend.com and having them knock the price of the 2012 down to $2,200, but they wouldn't budge. They'd give a crummy 5% off, but that's all. They're never willing to work a deal with me... I've had about enough of them.

I agree. I did really like the 2011 though... I played it and the Classic Custom. I was surprised that I felt like I liked the 2011 Asym neck better than the 60's slim taper. I've been playing a 60's neck for about 2 years now since I hated the 50's style neck. I keep hearing the 2012 neck is even better... I just need to find one to play! All of the stores keep telling me they'll get them in stock but can't give me a time frame. Guitar Center said sometime in July.

Well said. I was one of the kooks that actually loved the asymmetric neck on my 2010 Standard Plus (same as the 2011...2009, 2008...), and I've previously owned the '60 slim profile in another model a few years back, but you're right...The 2012 is just awesome. The flatter radius high up on the neck, with just a slight amount more "beef" under the thumb, compared to my 2010...makes it just awesome for me.

The neck is totally different that the 2011 model... falls in between 50's and 60's.
