2010 was a busy year for recalls by automakers worldwide. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and check to see if your trusted vehicle (no matter the manufacturer or the year) has been included in a recall for safety reasons.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Automakers recalled about 20 million vehicles in 2010, led by high–profile recalls by Toyota that prompted new scrutiny of the auto industry's safety record.
Toyota Motor Corp. recalled about 7.1 million vehicles in 2010 to fix faulty gas pedals, floor mats that could trap accelerators, defective braking and stalling engines.
Among other automakers, General Motors Co. recalled about 4 million vehicles in 2010 while Japanese rivals Honda and Nissan both recalled more than 2 million cars and trucks. Chrysler recalled about 1.5 million vehicles and Ford called back more than 500,000 vehicles. The recall data was preliminary and the government was expected to release final numbers next year.

Some of the 2010 recalls go back to the 1998 model year. Check here for models included in the 10 biggest recalls of 2010: 2011 10Best Biggest Recalls of 2010 - 10Best Cars - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver

I think a lot of the GM ones were for bad plastic parts that shattered in an accident.

I hate when my floor mats attack me! ( I think that's broken english for "floor mats get up under the pedals so you can't use the brakes" - never a good thing).

I was quite surprised about the whole issues with throttle pedal (gas pedal for you American peeps :p) getting stuck open. I was led to believe that all new cars had electric throttles ("drive-by-wire", not physically cable operated) to avoid jamming happening? Though I guess if it's mats getting in the way then this wouldn't help anyway.
