Now is something that sort of upset me from Gibson,
Here is two close-up pics from the neck joint.

Florian, of course, said that a neck reset would be needed.
And I decided to do it.
But I am really shocked to see that Gibson would ever allow a bad work like this to go out of their custom shop factory.
Wasn't the custom shop created to crafted better quality instruments, with more details and attention delivered to the building process?
I had one like that. got flamed on here for mentioning it.thats why gibson drives us nuts,we expext the holy grail, and when it fails (at those prices) it is a hard crash

Great project, I must say I felt a little disappointed to see such an authentic looking old top painted gold - but whose to say it will stay that way forever ay :)

Great project and amazing to see the stuff Gibson puts into them…. Historic Makeovers do this same work I wonder how many neck joins they've seen done like this?

Cant wait to see the before and after shot together - its so nice to get what you want = congrats and i'm sure you will love it.

Great thread. I agree with all of your decisions, I would have given a lot of thought to a trans cherry finish to show off that top though, I love gold tops too.

So its about the fit of the wood exclusively? Which I believe should be a lot better than what has been shown.

I wonder what a neck joint looks like with hide glue, after its disassembled...:hmm:

We shall find out soon.:thumb:

AH! I just found this and I have been watching all of the photos unfold but very disappointed to see the project isn't complete. This means I have to wait to watch more unfold. Its like watching a full series on netflix to find out you have to wait to see the last 3 episodes... 1st world problems.

Yeah, a bit of patience is required, next episodes soon:)
But I find it fun to live the process in real time, and don't feel in a hurry to see the process finished.
But I will sure be glad when I have the guitar back in its new form and feel..

I love seeing the whole process. I can't wait to hear what you think of the changes. Good choice on the gold top too. This one should age like the originals, right?

I am really looking forward trying the guitar with all these changes.
I know and remember the original guitar really well, as I played it extensively since 2010..

Concerning the finish, that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do this.
With the thin historically accurate finish that Florian made, it definitely will age like the originals... which I love.
But still patience will be required for this, as I don't want it to be aged by Florian, and want to wear it myself... But I guess with a certain amount of gigs and travelling, that will do it;-)

As others have commented, I love watching threads like this. As great as the guitar will end up looking, I am most curious about how it sounds when all this is finished. All the changes will impact the tone in some way, so it will be most instructive to get your impressions of how things have changed.
