Hi all!
I’ve been researching about 2009 custom shop catalogs and I do not found lp custom natural finish, only black, white and wine.
Mine one is a 2009 lp custom figured top natural finish, flamed maple.
Why this finished doen’t appears in the catalog?
Does anybody know why?

I wrote a mail to the customer services in order to check the authentity of the axe. They feedback me confirming the authenticity as the guitar appears in their database.
By this side, I don’t hab a problem. 8)

I know that in the 2001 catalog natural finish was contempled. This is what creates my doubt, why not in successive ones?

It wasn't available in subsequent years, maybe? It might show up in an archive at Gibson.com, but likely not. Gibson only showed an ebony finish for the ES-235 on the site, but there were two different bursts and cherry available and not listed.

Yes, that shows the available colors then, but Gibson doesn't issue the same finishes every year on some models. That particular model was a limited run, possibly until 2011. Gibson has sold many limited run guitars.

As serial number begins CS9….. I’m sure that my axe is not a reissue.

So, what’s the problem?

It’s a guitar that isn’t contempled in the 2009 catalog. CS were only available in black, white and red wine. In other hand, natural finish were only reissues. Mine one is a CS and not a reissue. This is the question.

Dealers can order what ever color they want if they desire a specific finish.... Natural is a common finish and doesn’t require any special paint mixing... it doesn’t make it any more valuable or desirable. There’s nothing unique about dealers ordering something outside the “catalog” named colors or the factory providing colors than those listed.

I had an old 2009 Musicians Friend catalog that had MF exclusive Customs in blue mist and silver sparkle.

Sam Ash had a special run of Black Widow Customs in Red in 2009.

LP Customs can be in any color outside the catalog.... especially since the Custom Shop started making them since 2003.

You mean that even though the catalog is available, the chart of colours is open to the customers.

It’s true that the first owner made the order in this natural finish as he doesn’t rather the black as the majority of the people. He sell me the guitar few months before pass away.
In his memory, i call my guitar Tomasa.

It is more likely it was a special run that Gibson provided to the dealer (store) it was purchased from than an individual,... but not impossible.

Also Gibson will just make that model in any color they want outside of listed catalog colors just because they can.... a clear coat is obviously cheaper to produce than any color that requires more attention and work....
